I've got an interview for a position with this company, FTI Consulting. It's an accounting/tax position. They're a publicly traded company which would be interesting for me, as I already have non-profit corporation experience.

Im also in the process of setting up an interview with Legg Mason in their accounting dept.

My current company has unofficially offered me a position, but I want to see what my other options are.

The whole process of finding the right job/career right out of college is a little overwhelming. I want a decent salary, and at the same time, I want a good company to work for...a company Id enjoy working for and wouldn't mind staying around for some 5 years+. I know it's hard to find a job with both a decent salary and enjoyable job functions/work environment.

Hey I work at FTI. In fact, i'm posting this from our NY office. I'm assuming you're applying for either the DC or the Annapolis office. Personally, I love working here but every office is different as far as environment. I'm quite sure the NY office is the most fun. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

haha... i wish

I'm starting at a big 4 in San Francisco (audit) in Fall 2007. San Francisco big 4 are only offering 51.5 starting with 2k relocation right now.

Phoenix's Ernst & Young office is paying a buddy of mine 47.

I'll be working 60 hours. He'll be working 40.

51k in SF buying power is 19 in Phoenix (according to salary.com, which doesn't seem right but does at the same time).

Can you please comment on whether the Vault.com writeup is/is not a fair depiction?
Your comment would help to calibrate the reliability of that place.
Thank you.

Maybe you mean for non-MBA???
With degree from a top school & experience the going rate is >$100k/yr + bonus for starters

A good rule of thumb is to remember that The Vault is the place where pissed people post. You rarely see balanced discussion there.

Take what you read with a grain of salt and you'll be okay.

well i'm talking about audit, not consulting. I don't know of too many people that go to top schools for MBA's just to enter the auditing field.

I'm an accountant and have never heard of that place. I work for a private company. I didn't want to go the big 4 route either because they work you to death. There is a reason there is such high turnover at those places.

SOX is horrible and has made my life a living hell as well! Well...it did at my old company. I don't think it'd be nearly as bad of an experience if the "auditors" that came in actually knew a single thing about IT or security in general. They throw you a list of things to have ready for them or prepare...they come in...you give them the results...they look at you funny like a dog with its head cocked to the side when it doesn't know what the hell you're saying (maybe the deer in headlights look is a better example). Then there's the millions of questions after that...ugh...

SOX Auditors is like watching a monkey fvcking a football...there's a whole lotta action with no results in the end.
