I've got a WRT54GS v.2 with no adapter. takes 12vDC .5a, will a 12vDC 1amp damage it

Edit: Make sure you get the polarity on the connector right.

The router will only take what it needs. The one watt figure is the limit of what the adapter can deliver, and obviously it's enough.
