Hi all. I've got a silkie terrier and I'm interested in getting a kitten to be its mate while I'm at work. Any recommendation? Price range is $300-$1000. Thanks!

Sorry to say this, but a dog is not going to mate with a cat, no matter how much you spend on it.

actually you are wrong, if you get a puppy and a kitten at the same time they dont know the diff and are fine, hell "MOST" dogs and cats are fine with each other if one of them is grown and the other is a kitten/puppy

That's exactly what I would say. Most of the cats at the Humane Societies are great. NEVER buy a pet from a pet store because most of their pets come from puppy/kitty farms and the animals are not taken care of well and such.

The humane societies work with the animals to make sure they are adoptable before they will give them to you. We got one of our cats from there and got our dog from a Rescue place.

Both are great.

You bought a silkie terrier and now want to drop up to $1k on a kitten? What's wrong with you? You can buy a mutt cat for about $30, or grab one from the humane society. I would recommend dropping off that "dog" while you're there :)

Or, get a large male cat and don't declaw it.

A good dog can get on well with a cat, but in my limited experience those little yappy dogs don't get on well with freaking anything, so goodluck putting a cat into the mix.

We have a cocker and a black lab that get along just fine with 10 cats. You just have to manage the introduction carefully and keep a close eye on things until you are sure they will get along. I too suggest you consider getting a kitten from the pound or local rescue agency rather than purchasing one.

What kitten would go well with it? You make it sound like it's a new dress and now you need to know what purse to get... It's a dog, it's not meant to be acessorised. Get a kitten you like.

i'm talking about compatibility. i don't want the silkie to bite the kitten to bits or the kitten to scratch the silkie to juliennes :)

If I were going to drop that kind of $ on a cat I'd brobably get a Bengal but since I'm to cheap/broke for that I got this instead for $75.

if i was gonna drop that kinda money on a Cat id get an Ocicat

Here

better link

"Ocicats have been described as "almost dog-like in their devotion to humans" and "very eager to please the people they own." Breeders also report that ocicats are voice sensitive. They don't like being scolded. If reprimanded, they stop what they're doing, and don't repeat the unwanted behavior, at least not right away. Ocicats are also praised for their extreme intelligence and sociability. "They want to be wherever you are. They'll follow you anywhere and everywhere. If you want to take a shower, you'd best make sure you shut the door, or you might have a cat in the shower with you."

WTH did it cost $75? Fully immunized and neutered I hope.

BTW, to the OP if you got a MainCoon or NW Forest Kitty it'll probably get so big the terrier wouldnt' be able to do anything anyway.

Get any cat that is small enough for the dog to rip to shreds.

BTW, I hate cats and I'm a bad person to answer this question.

I'll leave now.

With that silkie he'll need to find a cat that isn't big enough to own the dog.
