Well not THAT serious, but maybe you guys can help me out. I currently have the system in my sig. I am selling the processor in favor of one of the 800 fsb variety. I haven't decided between the 3.0C and 3.2C. I have somewhat considered the Precotts, but it seems like a bad idea from what I've read.

My question is...should I return my ram (Corsair 3200 XMS Pro - 2-3-3-6) and get the plain old XMS C2? It would save me enough money to get the 3.2 processor, and I believe the timing specs are the same. So 3.2 with XMS or the 3.0 with XMS Pro?

the 3.2 with XMS would be faster. they will both be damn fast tho so just get whatever is cheaper is my 2 cents.

Yea I'm thinkin about the 3.2. I bought the XMS Pro assuming the timings would be better or something, but they are rated the same. Anybody know the real difference other than a bigger heatspreader and led's on top?

Why are you even bothering?

I see no compelling reason to "upgrade" from your 3.06 to a 3.0

or even a 3.2. The difference in bus speed isn't going to make that much difference. Seems like a waste of time, effort, and money to me.

Well:
1) The 800 fsb chips have proven to overclock better
2) My motherboard locks my ram at pc2700 speeds because of the 533 fsb
3) Added bus speed
4) Why not? It's not much of a price difference.

I also don't see how it's much effort. I mean you just pop it in.

I'm with Thorin on this one, there are more enlightening projects in the world than a minor improvement, if even noticable.

Thanks for staying on topic guys... :(

Considering it's only going to cost me 20 bucks....I think the reasons I stated are more than worth it. Now the question is trade the ram or get the 3.0?

Get the 3.0C and keep your memory. No real point to getting the 3.2 unless you dont plan on overclocking. In fact, if you are already planning on overclocking, just get a 2.8C.

Thanks. That's what I think I'm going to do (the 3.0). The only thing I'm wondering is if I should trade the ram anyways. I mean is the XMS Pro actually any better?

I would get the regular XMS with the 3.2. It is worth it, those guys are just jealous. I noticed a huge differance going to 800 fsb.

I actually considered some 3500-3700, but I wanted the tighter timings. So you think I should just trade my ram in for the regular XMS? I'm considering it since it would save me quite a bit of money....definitely enough to switch to the 3.2.

To all you haters...

P4 3.06 533 vs. 3.0C

As you can see in some of the later benchmarks the added bus speed makes quite a significant amount of difference. Add this to a more overclockable chip and it sounds like a win win.
