I've got a resolution issue with San Andreas.

Every once in a while when I play GTA:SA on my PC, it'll lock up for a few seconds, go to a black screen, and then continue running normally. However, when it locks up for those few seconds my resolution in Windows resets to 800 x 600 (I have it at 1280 x 1024). I don't really know why it's doing this, but I do run the game at that resolution, so could that be the problem? I haven't had any other issues with the game besides AIM kicking me out of it sometimes (but that happens with every game I own. I always put up an away message when I play so AIM doesn't bug me, but It resets itself sometimes and locks up the game I'm playing) but signing off fixes that.

Anyone here have an idea as to why this happens, or am I just going to have to reset my 30+ icons on my desktop every time it does this?

See what happens when you play with no other applications running in the background, including anything in the system tray. The resolution issue sounds similar to what happens when another app steals focus, or when the game crashes out to desktop, and doesn't get a chance to re-set the resolution to what it was before the game changed it to 800x600.

Ok, I'll try that. But first, I'm going to see if I can set the game's resolution to 1280 x 1024. If it doesn't work, I'll just reset it.

Unless that sounds like a bad idea. I'm not too sure.

-Edit-

I set the resolution to 1280 x 1024, and it runs ok, but it slows down more when I'm in a heavier area. THat, and for some reason my mouse doesn't respond as fast as it should. So I'm basically sacrificing control for looks. And to fix an annoying glitch.

I probably need a new video card. But I need a new computer, so thats not gonna happen. I don't have the money yet, anyway.

I ****ing hate Rockstar's awful programming. If the the ****ing thing didn't lock up so much, I wouldn't have this problem, but it does, because Rockstar sucks at their job (though the game is fun). I can't get help from many people either, because my problems are always 100% unique and no one has ever heard of them before, and they don't stem from another problem. That'd be impossible.

**** me and my crap for luck. And computer. And luck again.
