I recently purchased an Abit Kt7a-raid board along with an amd tbird 900mhz socket-a chip. Well they were working pretty good, a little buggy (i think it was my win2k install). Then one day, during bootup it would post, do cpu speed/type, ram count, then proceed to scan and detect my ide devices, then RIGHT at the end of the 4th ide device it would just lock up, freeze, STOP, but i still had keyboard control, i could do the 3 finger salute just fine, etc etc. Anyway, I returned the board back to where i purchased it, they were able to recreate the same problem, so they shipped me a new board (and yes it is new, the capacitors are a different color from the board i returned) Anyway, I'm still having the same problem on this new board. I have done all that I konw to do, checked ram sticks, installed 1 ide device at a time, did just the bare bones (video, floppy, main hd), I even tried goign without a hard drive, it still froze up. I also checked my bios settings, i disabled raid support (wasn't using them yet), checked my voltage, which I'm pretty sure should be 1.75 for the 900mhz tbird, I have done all that I konw to do, I refuse to believe that the same problem can show up twice in a row. Any suggestions on how to combat/fix the situation, please enlighten me, I just wanna use my new kickin system. Thanks much!

Could be many different things...try the following:

1) Post details of your system (IDE drives, ram, bus speed, mobo specs, everything, bios version, everything)

2) Sounds like one of your IDE drives may be not plugged in correctly/loosely...are you using ATA/100 on a non ATA/100 board?? Using right cables? Did you try different cables to see if that might be the problem?

More details of the problem and what screen you get (blue, black, what does it do?) Does Win2K boot up at all?
