I've got a question mark over mass storage controller in devman

I moved to a new hard drive
can't get the drivers for the intel chipset to install,it crashes as soon as I try to run the exe even in safe mode
I would really like to get rid of this question mark-I think it is the SATA controller that is doing it

should have been installed when you installed the OS.

it didn't install with the OS,I used the recovery disc but I have also used XP pro with a driver that I had to integrate and burn a new OS disc before that computer would recognise any hard drive (you would think that would mean no question mark)it would install but Qmark on it in devman

did you press F6 when it asked for the drivers for the SATA. it sounds like you did not and now it can not load them since the drive is in use on that SATA. you'll have to reinstall and install the SATA drivers before you install the OS.

no I did not do f6
the driver was integrated into xp pro and it loaded fine but still there was that big Qmark
I wonder if I can install them in safe mode and reboot

it was not installed, just added to the cd, you still have to install it when it asks you to press F6. you said you have tried safe mode and it did not work. you're going to have to redo the install again.

it was installed because before I integrated to the cd windows would not even see any hard disk

When it crashes does it present you with an error? If so, what kind of error?
Also did where did you get the chipset drivers from? Intel? Gateway?

because you did not press F6 and have it get the drivers off the cd. that's why it's crashing.
