I've got a P166, so what are the different types of sockets for it?

I've heard of socket 7 and 3, are there differences like the modern P3 has with slot 1 and flip chip?

The 166, if it's not mmx, i believe it should work in socket 5 and socket 7 boards. Socket 3, and 4 were for 386's and 486s.

The Socket5 spec only goes to 133MHz; a P166(non-MMX) will run in such a socket but with a top speed of 133.

Socket3 is for the 486s, Socket8 is for Pentium Pro cpus.

You need to know if its a MMx (P55c) or vanilla (P54c) cpu. Its not just a socket deal. The MMx cpus use dual voltage, 2.8 for the core and 3.3 for the I/O if I recall. Vanilla cpus just use 3.3. Plenty of mobos don't have the extra regulator for the 2.8v.
