I've got a 120mm case fan with a thermistor

How can I remove it and not destroy the fan? Can I just snip it?

This is a Globe sleeve bearing fan, but I want to control it with a controller.

Shorting the thermistor leads together will give max rpm, leaving the circuit open will give minimum rpm... replacing the thermistor with a 10K or 25K ohm potentiometer, variable resistor, allows full range manual control.

What is the minimum RPM determined by?

Could I just snip the wire and add a 3pin connector on it and use a fan controller? Would be easier than having to solder on a potentiometer.
