I was given a "gift" of old hardware at a place I used to work at... I had a pile of gigantic hard drives, etc. I don't know why I took them home. I ended up taking them to the dump about 2 weeks later.

Yeah. I can't imagine how horrible the head-switch times are on that monstrosity! Is that thing "sealed" or are all of the platters exposed to the outside world via that sliding (I assume) head mechanism?

I've seen 10-platter 8" or 10" HD stacks (old VAXen), but nothing like that thing. (The VAXen drives loaded using a cakebox mechanism, to protect the platters, and were then semi-airtight-sealed, I think, by the loading mechanism.
