I've got 111GB's to burn... is this excessive?

Well, here's my plan for my 111GBs:
40 GB XP Home
40 GB 2000 Pro
15.5 GB 98SE
15.5 GB Linux (I'm gonna need some help with this one...... what version? KDE Desktop? Any good 'teach me linux' sites?)
 
I'm not following why you are giving so much room to each OS. Is there a reason why you need 98se, 2k and XP? All most any game can run on either 98 or 2k, which makes XP not necessary. Otherwise you can run almost everything on XP and forget about the other 2 and just have XP and Linux. Seems like a huge waste to me to have 3 versions of Windows and give them equal space. My only suggestion is that you set up a partition just for mp3s and other shared files and give each OS a little less room.
 
uh, make your OS partitions no more than ~3gb, and set your other partitions larger for apps and multimedia (i.e. mp3s, wavs, movie formats - DVD rips, etc.)

winxp, win98se, and linux would be the most u'd need, as far as i can tell...either that or swap win2k and winxp - they're running off essentially the same cores...of course, u may be using win2k server, in whcih case, i'd say to hell w/ xp.

anyway, the best way to burn that much space is ripping DVDs, downloading mp3s and other MM files...hell, just keep everything u download - including drivers, etc. and keep them backed up in a directory..

i only wish i had the space.
 
When I got my 120GB WD drive for $99.99 I took it to a buddies house and he filled it up full of Dreamcast games, MP3's and DivX.

I agree with everyone about the OS portions. Keep those small and have a partition for programs. That way, backup is easy and if you have to reformat/reinstall, you don't lose everything.

Where did you get a 120giger for 100$???? I want one!

Yeah dude, what do you need that much space and os's for? I am guessing 4 diff drives? Why not raid the 2 15'2 or the 2 40's and just use win2k and linux? All you need is 1 M$ os....not 3.
 
I'm guessing (and I could be wrong here) that he has a 120 GB drive (~111 GB of space) and wants to partition it. Still, way too much space for each OS and way too many OSes!
 
Better way of doing it is if you can afford to, buy another drive, 20GB or so, and make that your OS drive, and have all of your programs, mp3 etc on the 120GB drive.

20GB Drive:
WinXP - 4GB
Win2K - 4GB
Win98SE - 4GB
Linux - 3GB
Other - 1GB (for secondary backup or alternative OS)

120GB drive:
120GB partition with folders for mp3 backup stuff and program files folders for each OS.

Of course you can make adjustments where necessary, giving xp and 2k more space than 98se for instance. But this type of scheme seems to make the most sense. i also think the three windows OS's are excessive but if you really want them then go for it.

In December, CompUSA had it for $299 less a $100 MIR. I pricematched BestBuy for $199 and got the mail in rebate. RoXor! 🙂
 
Here's a better strategy.

WinXP- 10-15 GB's
Progs and data - 80 GB's
Linux - 25 GB's

Why have win2kpro, winxp pro (unless you put server on), and win98? I could see having win2k server and xp pro, but ditch 98. I don't know of anything that only supports win98 anymore.
 
As I have posted here a few times, I have 6 OSes installed with 25GB of a 40GB drive. I've even left room for BeOS, but it doesn't like ATA-100 nor Athlon XPs/MPs out of the box.

While I see no problem with multiple versions of Windows (I have ME/2K/XP), I have dedicated no more than 4GB to either of those OSes. Chances are that only one of them (2K, in my case) will the the OS you use 95% of the time. I only use the others so I won't defile my pristine 2K install. The remaining disk space would be better utilized as dedicated partitons for personal files, MP3s, games, downloads, etc.

I'd say so...for now! I just bought a 40.9GB Fujitsu UATA100 7200rpm hard-drive and I loaded every game I like to play (about 30 games) and I only used 13GB so I still have 27.9GB left! If the price was right then you did fine but if you payed alot for that gigantic drive then you should have waited for the prices to drop. But, on the other hand, you're not gonna run outta space for years to come!
