5 megapixels, 8x optical zoom, uses compact flash I/II with support for microdrive. i am so in love.

steves-digicams says it is going to be out july 02.... :( that means i'll probably get it this time next year or something since i have to wait for prices to fall :(

I hope you mean priced under $1500, because no way they are going to price that under $500.

notice the :D

in reality, i bet it will be around 1000 or if i'm lucky, 700-800 :D. it's still a consumer camera (unlike the D60) after all, so i doubt it will be 1500.

Once I master the G2, I'll start saving my pennies for an EOS D60 or whatever the equivalent is at the time of purchase.

The Nikon CP5700 will not MSRP for $500! Try at least $1000 as the CP5000 debuted at $1K+.

Hell, for 2300 bucks or so I would get a medium format camera and a good scanner. Resolutions and quality you will not see in a digital cam for more than a decade

There are already digital backs for medium format cameras that rival film quality. However, the best one are scanning backs and need to be tethered to a computer. Still good for the studio, however.

i really hate having to deal with film. i like being able to take a virtually unlimited amount of pictures without having to change the film. and with a decent digital camera, the vast majority of people can't tell the difference in a 5x7 print.

Of course medium format has more resolution than a digital slr, so who would go digital? Large format has more resolution than medium format, so who in their right mind would go medium format? I don't print billboards, so what do I care? In fact I know of some who have used their digital slr to shoot billboards. The latest crop of high end dslr's rival 35mm film prints as far as output goes. Even 13"x19" prints on lab paper are indistinguishable from 35mm. Of course digital isn't for everyone, and some professionals need medium format. Digital is a whole different niche. It's not the be all and end all, but it does has it's uses. Digital is a tool, that's all.

Not to quibble but large format is extremely impractical. A 6x9 or 6x6 medium format camera provides more than enough resolution with the right film for almost any application, and digital backs are readily available for them as well. I love my hasselblad but dont use it as much as I should.

That's my point exactly. Compared to a digital slr medium format is quite impractical. There's really no use at all comparing the two since they aren't for the same niche and each does its own job.

The estimated price that has been leaked on the net for that model is $1200, which is a BIT away from that $500 mark. Unfortunetly, now that cameras are getting to the point of adding megapixels giving you very little returns, companies will probably begin milking the high mp cams for a while, holding prices higher.
