I've decided what I'm getting (I think)

After good advice from individuals on this board, I think I may have finally decided what I'm getting (that is, until someone brings up a good point and I start changing everything)

1.) A64 3200+ s939 - $203
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=19-103-502&depa=1

2.) Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - Retail - $74.27
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-145-479&depa=1

3.) MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - $136
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=13-130-468&depa=0

4.) Random case with 500w psu - $45
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-162-027&depa=0
*I'll probably be replacing the generic psu with a good Antec 450W after the holidays.*

Grand total = $458.27

I will be using the peakers/monitor/sound card/video card from this system on that one.

I'm hoping I can overclock the 3200+ about 400Mhz with the stock HSF and the case cooling. We'll see. 🙂 Is $458 a decent price to pay for that setup? Thanks 😀

Why don't you get a good case to start with ? That is the one place you never want to skimp. Even if you replace the PSU, you still have a crap case afterwards. Just get a Sonata, or a 3700 amb or a 3700 bqe. You won;t be sorry. If you get that one, you may be sorry.

get a better case and psu. a psu is something you CANNOT go cheap wtih. they are loud, cheap, weak, and unreliable. also, get a good case. unless you can afford $ for looks, get something that's more durable, quieter, and comes with quiet fans. other then that, your other components are .

Get a nice Antec case like the Sonata or an SLK3700AMB/BQE, which include quality Antec 380W and 350W units, respectively, and you won't have to buy another PSU except for heavy overclocking. Try and double your RAM too, if this is for gaming.

if you have a 939 socket mboard you should really go for two sticks of memory, otherwise a 754 solution would be recommended. (stay on 939 if you intend to buy another 512mb stick later though)

I plan on getting another stick of 512 ddr400 in about a month or so. I'm buying a part or two and I'm getting one as a birthday gift more than likely. As for the case, I found this guy:

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-129-125&depa=1

I noticed that the rear of the tower doesn't exactly match the mobo I'm getting. Is this correct, or am I hallucinating? http://www.newegg.com/app/Show....JPG/13-130-468-04.JPG

The two front fans are listed as optional. I might as well order them while I'm at it, but I'm not sure as to what size they should be. Any suggestions?

Thanks again for all the help.

That's probably correct, though the board will come with its own backplate you just swap out.

That case description says 1 80mm fan back, 2 80mm front (optional), but I really would still suggest the other Antec models above--those have 120mm fan mounts (exhaust included).

While that's true, they only have 2 USB front ports. I was looking for a case that had 2 usb, 2 audio, and a firewire port. I noticed that two Antec cases fit those requirements that are reasonably priced. The Sonata, like markfw900 suggested and the Liberacce Case (otherwise known as "ANTEC ALUMINUM SERIES SUPER LAN BOY MINI TOWER CASE") http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=11-129-145&depa=1

The *lowers head* Lan-boy case does have 2 120mm fans. Between those two which will have better airflow? I know that "Lan-boy" case is a bit ostentatious, but it'll be hidden away in the desk behind a door and whatnot.

I'd take the Sonata, since it includes the nice 380W PSU, and you're not going to match its $115 price tag (after shipping) with the Super Lanboy ($85 after shipping) and a POS $30 PSU. The Super Lanboy is light and seems to have good airflow, but I believe there's no front air filter. The difference in temps would probably be trivial at best, which is also what seems to be the effect of adding another 120mm fan to the Sonata.
