I've decided that I need to learn sql.

so, couple questions... I've decided, after 4 years in working in hosting, I need to find out what this whole "server thing" is about.

I have the opportunity to get a dedicated server for relatively cheap and free bandwidth/collocation.

I kinda want to learn more about sql, since it seems like we've got a lot of client stuff running with it.

anyone have any suggestions for books to help get a noobtard started?

also, what specs would you think would be the min. for a decent server that wouldn't be pushing a ton of load? I'm mostly just planning on using it to practice/learn stuff with, and maybe some light file hosting for my own needs.

It really depends. But you can get a copy of MSDE, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc for nothing and start playing on your local machine.
