Uhh I read that as HUMANITY and thought "You're just NOW figuring this out!" ;)

That's what I get for taking a nap and then posting right after I wake up.

It's been humid here in Bakersfield. Don't know why. Although we've been getting midwest-like thunderstorms and humidity. Sure does suck when it's 106 out and humid. :(

I've misread this topic twice now.

The first time, I thought you said you didn't like humility; I was expecting to come in here with you bragging about how cool you are or something. ;)

The second time, I thought you said you didn't like humanity; I was expecting a rant about people, and how they suck.

:)

It will probably be better than Charlotte in August, less humidity.

Join the club. The general lack of high humidity is pretty much the only good thing about Minnesota weather.

You must be kidding. I grew up in MN (22 years) and the humidity sucked.

Since moving to Virginia, it's come to my attention that HUMIDITY SUCKS! It's gross. Really, really gross. It's raining and that only makes things worse. UGH!

(Yes, I know that humidity in other places is worse, but I'm not used to much humidity.) :p

Thank you for letting me rant. :)

You're welcome to rant... us Southerners have been doing it for years. And its particularly cool right now.... and shockingly enough, rain doesn't seem to make it more or less humid... its stuck in the 80% region constantly. :) I grew up in Charlotte, NC and have lived in Raleigh, NC and currently Blacksburg, VA. Of course, living in the mountains is nice, sometimes--well, except that there's nothing here, and it rains every day at 4pm. lol.

The worst is when its 100 degrees with 90% humidity. Fayetteville, NC is the worst for that... although it does get bad in Raleigh, too.

Just get used to showering three or four times a day, and you'll be fine. :)

Anyways... welcome to Virginia.

exactly.

i moved from GA to OR and guess what, it rains more frequently in OR than in GA but it's MUCH MUCH less humid, even when raining in OR it isn't as humid as it is in GA on an average day.

Just wait until the humidity is stuck at +90% and the temperature is right there with it. There's no relief even at night. Blargh!

Went to school in upstate NY, now back in Cali. Definitely CA weather is best. NY sucks all year. Too cold in winter, too humid in summer. CA is good all year dry and warm.

Coming back from California on the 29th, we had a connection in Houston. We were in the plane taxing(SP??) for about 25 minutes. They wouldn't turn on the air. We were stuck on board with all those people, no air, and on a hot runway for about half an hour. BLECH! I was in LA visiting family once as a kid and I remember how humid and gross it was. I know we don't have it the worst here, but coming from the Central Coast of California, it's pretty damn bad. lol I've had our AC on almost all day. I'll turn it on until it's too cold, turn it off, then turn it back on again when it's too hot. Heehee

Humidity = amount of water vapor dissolved in the air. The maximum absolute concentration this can be (100%) short of having it be foggy or supersaturated is largely determined by the temperature. (gets supersaturated in Orlando a lot -- where you can see the water condensing out of the air and the sun/heat rising off the ground re-evaporates it, not really raining but you wish it was) At the "boiling point" of water, 100% humidity = 1x normal atmospheric pressure except made just of water.

The reason it sucks is that the more saturated with water vapor the air already is, the harder it is to get it to accept more. In other words, your sweat stops evaporating and it just sticks to you and accumulates in larger more disgusting puddles on your body. Sweat evaporation is your body's main mechanism for staying cool. (The sweat would normally absorb over 2.2kJ/gram of heat energy when it evaporated). Since your body can't cool itself off, you sweat MORE, even though the sweat you are already soaked in is doing no good.

The other reason it SUCKS is that dust mites, mold, mildew, and other allergens thrive in the humidity. The allergic reactions raise your metabolism, make you feel even hotter, and make the already extremely stuffy air even harder to breathe.

I too thought this thread said "humanity" when i first read it

Right now according to accuweather.com we're at 76 degrees with 76% humidity
It can get quite nasty in summer time, and there isn't much you can do about it, other than blast your AC (if you have it)

I could deal with it being simply "hot" but it generally just gets hot and sticky here, and it takes a few days to get down to the point where it's comfortable. Of course being in a room with 2 computers and no AC dosen't help matters any. :)
