So I have come down to 4 cases :

Bitfenix Shinobi

Fractal Arc Midi

Antec p280

Corsair 550D

As you can see I like the minimalist style. I will be running a 2500K and a 7850 and only a 1T HDD now and maybe a SSD in the future. I also think at some point I will at least mildly OC the i5. The silent feature of the bottom two are a nice bonus but my only concern is temps and is it really worth the money.

Appreciate everyone's 2 cents thanks!

You've listed the 280 and 550D, why no R3?

From that list I'd go 550D. The P280 doesn't allow me to close off the top vents to block excess noise.

550D is slightly more expensive than R3 but arguably the quality is a bit better and it comes with an extra fan. From that list go with 550D if you're looking to build it as quiet as possible, and Arc Midi if you want better cooling.

Yea I probably would have gone 550D if it was out when I built this box because I'd gladly pay $40~ more for an R3 with better build quality and that's the 550D. But that $40 could go towards a couple of these Noctua's http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=47335&vpn=2x NF-S12B ULN&manufacture=Bundle Deals

I just feel like with any of the silent case options I will have to add more fans to the mix when I OC bringing the price even higher, I have read less than stellar reviews of the R3 heatwise when ocing

Arc Midi sounds like the better option for you then. 3x 140mm stock fans is pretty nice.

Worth buying one more for a side intake fan?

Not with the components you're putting in. If you were running a SLI/Crossfire setup or a particularly hot and noisy graphics card, then it would be.

The case comes with a simple fan controller that can only accommodate the three fans supplied with the case.

Well if thats the situation and I am only going to slightly OC the CPU would the quiet cases provide enough cooling?

Yes, for a slight OC only and a low heat 7850 you would probably get by with 2-3 120mm fans

Now I am considering the R3 as well good grief this isn't getting easier. I will probably go with one of the quieter cases and then just add fans as need depending on internal temps.

Yes but all reviews are with stock fans in the stock configuration.

If you want uber cooling an R3 can do it no problem. It's all about the fan configuration. Same with the 550D and P280 🙂

Sorry from the good old USofA but thanks

Call up Antec and ask them for a rebate form if you do go with a P280. I'm sure they'll give you one. Antec support, like Corsair, is very good at keeping customers loyal to their brands.
