I've been sending out 30,000 e-mails a day

Ok, I received this e-mail tonight from my webhost.

Dear Ryan,
As everybody knows SPAM email is becoming a larger problem everyday. It is
become so large of a problem that we are now working on blocking spam
automatically server wide. Over the last two months emails incoming to the
server you are on (titan) has doubled. Over that last 24 hours over
30,000 emails came in. That's almost 1 million a month, anThey d using industry
standards 65-70% of those emails are unwanted SPAM. This is causing
tremendous load on the servers and needs to be repaired.

So, effective today the server you are on will be filtering all incoming
email using 4 public IP blacklists:
bl.spamcop.net
sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org
relays.ordb.org
list.dsbl.org

The way that these blacklists work is they follow user spam complaints. When a user reports to them a mass email sender (spam) they investigate the issue and then put the ip of the sender on the blocklist. The server then verifies the ip of it all incoming mail against the ips that are on the blacklist - If they are not on the blacklist the email goes through, if it is then the mail bounces. 99.9% of legitimate email senders will not get on those blacklists, butspammers will be stopped. Any spam mail that is found on the blacklists will automatically bounce, and will not reach your inbox.

Hopefully you will appreciate this effort, but you may also not like your
email being filtered. I apologize about that, but 99% of people want fewer
spam emails and we have to support those 99%. We do not expect 100% of spam to be stopped, but the amount that you receive will be substancially decreased.

In order to bring you the best possible hosting experience with Telnap
Internet Services, this policy is firm and here to stay. All email will be
scanned through the previously listed blacklists until further notice.

Thank you for choosing Telnap for your hosting needs, and your feedback is
appreciated.

Best regards,
Eric Kofman

This doesn't make any sense. My account only has one e-mail attached to it and it has yet to get a single e-mail in its inbox. Further, the only thing I can even think of is that I created a mailing list, that has about 20 members and has about three e-mails sent to it a day, or about 60 total e-mails being sent from my server.

What could be the problem?

Um they're saying you are getting spammed with that much, not that you are sending the spam. They're protecting your ass, you should be grateful. 🙂

Ok, but what I don't get is that I have yet to receive a single e-mail? So they have managed to block the millions of e-mails that have been sent to me?

How many porn sites did you sign up for?

 should be how many porn sites his buddies signed him up for.

See, thats the thing. No one knows that e-mail address. I have never sent any one an e-mail from it, or given anyone that e-mail address. (At least not that I can recall.)

the e-mails are being sent to anything @yourdomain and not to your single 'real' user.

O jeez. You would think someone who just graduated from college would have some level of reading comprehension. Thanks!

I guess I have one more question for the late night crowd then. For my mailing list, if I have twently people on the list and someone sends out a 1 meg file, how come my account doesn't get charged 20megs in bandwidth?

Those are server statistics - nowhere does it say anything about you receiving that much mail yourself. The combined users on the server receive that much mail.

if you havent signed up for anything or been giving out the email address, then you wont get any email to that address. thats why youre not getting email to it. but all the other people on your server do get email, and apparently its a lot of spam. your isp has written up this letter to inform all customers of their new policy.

its that simple.😕
