I've been running SETI for over 5.5 years.....

....and I feel STUPID! One of my main rigs started freezing everytime I would run SETI. I figured some hardware bit the dust like CPU, RAM, mobo, or temps/voltage were FUBAR......so I started trouble-shooting. I even went so far as taking the system all the way apart and reloading Win2k clean. This went on for a couple months. This rig hasn't run SETI for like 3-4 months now because I figured it just could no longer handle 100% cpu load. It was fine for everything else but SETI.

Now, my dumbass finally gets the bright idea to just delete the entire SETI folder and download some fresh copies and WHAM....IT FRIGGIN RUNS AGAIN! Something in the client or SETI driver exe became corrupted! I've run SETI on prob some 1000 different PC's and I've NEVER seen that happen.

Arrrggggg....all those wasted days of 10-15 wu's on this PC!!!! This PC had flawlessly crunched about 5k wu's prior! 🙁

The good news...count on my for an additional 10-15 wu's per day for the TeAm! 😀 lol

Well I finally figured out it's SETI making Ventrilo crash on my machine. 🙁 And since I run SETI as a service I can't just turn it off...I have to reboot to get it to go away. So I don't think there will be any SETI on my P4 until summer when I get a new comp. 🙁

Five and a half years and you still haven't managed to find any aliens yet?!? :Q

Me thinks you've been looking in the wrong places there, Thad! 😛

I get a problem where Ventrilo crashes and brings down AIM with it, which requires a hard reboot to fix. I have no idea why AIM crashes too, but strangely the whole thing only seems to happen when SETI is running. For a month or two I had SETI off when I was doing some video editing, and as soon as I went to put SETI on this week Ventrilo started crashing again.

My computer at home is running Win2KPro too with SETI and Ventrilo with no problem, so maybe a reformat of this machine will fix it.

BT's the old man around here 😉

My brothers machine just recently started freezing when it loads SETI ,I thought it might be because he accidently set the priorit to high ,but maybe its got corrupted? ,gives me a 2nd option if it isn't the priority

Btw whats Ventrilo?

Try reinstalling Win2k SP4. I don't use AIM, so that may be part of the problem as well.

Yes....old man, lol. 😛

Wipe all his files and try again!

I use Ventrilo every night. Nearly all the people in my CODX clan use it while we game. Much, much better than typing back and forth. I can say in 5 minutes what would take an hour of typing, lol. 🙂
