Ive been playing the BEST mod EVER!

I hadnt heard of it just until yesterday...its called the Cinematic Mod and its for HL2 and Episodes 1 & 2...and all I can really say is WOW!

This is a COMPLETE overhaul to the Half Life 2 series...and I mean COMPLETE! I'm talking new models for everything and everyone, new super resolution textures, new changes to maps (lighting, shadows, sky boxes, trees, props, and foliage everywhere...no more emptiness in big levels), new sound effects and music...I mean new EVERYTHING! This effects all episodes of HL2 in case you missed it...not just the main game.

This is truly breath taking. Again, this mod is for all episodes of HL2! Comes in a whooping 10GBs just to give you an idea of the changes made!!!

Anywho...the pictures really dont do it justice at all...in 100% complete honesty if I didnt know any better I would swear that this is a complete total conversion for the Crytek 2 engine done by the Crysis and Valve team themselves...it truly is that polished and professionally done. Its MAKING me want to play all the HL2 games over again and I am!

And to top it off these Crysis like graphics (and no it isnt a Crysis mod...it is for the original Source engine) even as beautiful and spectacular as they are have little to no impact on performance! I mean, my rig is a Intel Xeon quad core X3350, 4GB RAM, 2 x 4890 1GB Crossfire...so nice and beefy...but at 1800x1440, MAX settings, 8x MSAA, 16x AF my frames NEVER drop below 80fps...they mostly sit around 100-120...which is what they are playing just the regular game without the mod!

Also, something very cool that I noticed is that all NPCs, and not just the main characters, have been completely redone with all new models, skins, everything...even the supporting characters (like the enemies and such) are redone. The resistance fighters themselves (all the non-main characters around you) are all different...no more seeing the same person twice!

Anyways, maybe Ive been out of the loop and Im like the only one that hasnt heard of this...but if you like HL2 like I do, and to be honest I dont like it THAT much...like its not the best game ever in my opinion, but I like it...you OWE it to yourself to check this out. You will be THANKING me that you did.

Again, BEST MOD EVER! Seriously guys and gals, it looks Crysis good...if not better in some areas.

Indeed, that mod pushes the Source engine to its limits, it's truly beautiful, I've played it once (by that I mean playing HL2, E1 and E2 again with it installed) and it was great, but some of the new character faces such as the new Alyx were better in previous versions, ever since Cinematic version 8 came out Alyx's face looks like it's about to explode.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the faces...some do seem a bit...chunky? Other than that, which isnt that big a deal, and it doesnt affect everyone, this mod truly is on a level of its own.

I liked it. Makes things look a bit fresh after playing through the games a few times already.

But the guy really needs to spice up his textures for the sizes and amounts he is using, he could do some really nice stuff, then again I am just being nit picky about it since I am a texture artist myself lol

Ive checked into this in the past. While what they have done to the landscapes is nice, the faces are just friggin ugly and creepy.

Lots of people on another forum I used to visit loathed this mod along with its creator for some reason. I'm not exactly sure why, but I've never played it...then again I've never played HL2 really...

Cheers for the heads-up, I've come across some brilliant half-life mods before, Metastasis, Research + Developement etc. this sounds good.

Will definitely check this out as I still want to do a full playthrough (half-life, half-life 2, Op4, BS, Eps 1 and 2) before Ep 3.

I've been playing cinematic mod since the very first version.

This mod looks and plays better than a lot of shitty games coming out today.

And runs butter smooth on an engine that is almost 6 years old.

Calling it epic would be an understatement.

Cool, I didn't know they had progressed to 10.x already. I have the 9.0-something mod currently installed and it was incredible, but loading times went through the roof (I'm talking a full 3-4 minutes freeze while it loads a new area).

LoL, this was the only bad thing I found in this mod, they made Alyx from a good looking girl into a crack-whore, must be the creators weird ass taste in women. Other than that though everything else is great looking, I'm sure there's a way to get everything except the crappy new char models in the game.

One of my favorite mods. It is what motivated me to finally upgrade from my 8800gts 640mb. It changes the feel and makes everything look way more impressive. I personally like the Alyx models, granted they aren't perfect and some of the outfits are just over the top, but you get to pick your character models for almost every part of the game with the "Character Pimper" so you get a choice at least.

Best mod ever? NAY. That's either Nameless Mod or Mechwarrior Living Legends.

It looks good for Source engine, but it doesn't come close to Crysis. I think people keep forgetting what Crysis looks like. I got pretty far in the game on version 9 before I stopped playing.
