system already gonna loud anyway, if you want a quite system, watercool the north/south bridges, CPU, video card and get an HD silencer. you can watercool your PSU for all I care (but it only works on some models, most integrated PSU components are spread too far apart to grab all the heat, but it's been done before *_* lol and keep your fans to a minimum or ultra low speeds for maximum silence.

Zalman CNPS9500 and Zalman VF900CU coolers
YATE LOON 120mm - D12SL-12 fans
Seasonic 500+ Watt
Seagate 7200.10
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
BenQ DW1655 DVD-RW
Radeon x1900xt vid card w/ aftermarket cooler
2gb Corsair valueselect ddr2 ram
Viewsonic VX2025WM monitor

so how does this look? any changes or improvements? If not, here comes the new comp!

That looks pretty solid, here are my thoughts?

Personally I'm not a fan of the P180; mainly due it's of steel and cheap plastic. I would suggest you take a look at a few Lian Li's, they are on a whole other level in my opinion. Take a look at the V1100 and PC-101.

The Seasonic S12 is great choice but unless you think you may go SLi or Crossfire 500 watts is more then you need. The 430 watt S12 or even 380 would handle that configuration no problem.

I've had good luck with Samsung optical drives, performance and reliability wise so that would be my recommendation there.

Also regarding the Zalman CNPS-9500; I would opt for the "AT" version so you get the 4-pin PWM fan for better fan control and therefore lower noise.

you can get the 6400 and it will be fine. no reason to get a 7800GT. get a 7900GT. and if you aren't OC'ing, why water cooling? sometimes, water cooling can be louder. and why low native rez? for that much money, you can get a nice 20" monitor.

assuming you are overclocking, that is.

I've owned both boards and the P5B Deluxe will treat your E6600 better. It will overclock higher and run cooler. The DS3 has problems with the conroe (4MB cache) chips and also runs hotter, significantly hotter on the northbridge and the mosfets near the CPU.

IMHO

that RAM is not a very good deal. GSkill has RAM with 4-4-4-12 timings for $190, but he can't get that b/c c2d doesn't allow memory voltages over 1.9!:| He's not ocing anyway...

he actually has a lot of quiet components in there, seasonic psu, yate loon fans, zalman coolers... so putting a vf900 on the vid card would be optimal.

Just a note: The difference in temperature between the Zalmans on low (completely inaudible) and the Zalmans on high (annoying) is only 1-2c at best, so make sure to keep them on the lowest fan speed

my only question is for all of you that are putting up parts that are made to OVERCLOCK!!! In his post he said not overclocking. I am in the same boat so I have been working around a month on a conroe build that I am going to start today or later in the week. As I have seen in all the reviews and forums, YOU DO NOT NEED THE HIGH END for the non-OC computer.

If someone can tell me why you need a 5% increase in ram for 50-100 bucks
or a 2-4 FPS in a mobo for $50 more when you can have all the same things on the gigabyte S3 for around $120, yes the ram is a little picky but not that bad if you are non-oc.

The only thing I dont get from his post is water cooling, maybe he really likes that, but other than that why bump him up the ladder of EXPENSIVE PARTS

Well i was only thinking about water cooling for silence but as mentioned by many here, that might not be the best choice so i'll stick with my p180 case and ill buy aftermarket fans and coolers. With that said, which ram should i get? theres alot of mixed opinions here and if im not oc'ing should i just stick with the e6400 and screw the e6600?

To answer forummaster, the only reason i want lower native res. is to make sure i can play most games @ optimal resolution w/ good fps. Although a bigger monitor might be better, a jump in the pixel count will also lead me to buy more expensive parts down the road to be able to play games at those resolutions and thats not something i want.

as far as monitors check out this link

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1745344&enterthread=y

I have looked at that and determined that i will go with the BenQ for gaming and general use. $208 after rebate and its 19"

As far as ram I have been watching posts on the DS3 thread in mobos and many are talking about the patriot 667 working great for around $160 and the corsair xms2 at around %180 after mail in rebate.
