I've been ignoring my jury summons, now they sent me a certified letter

I've ignored 3 summons; been too lazy to call back or just forgot. I got a card that says there's a certified letter for me to pick up from the post office. I punched in the tracking number and yep, it's from the freakin' court house.

Why don't these fvckers just leave me alone!? i'm a full time student and I can't afford to miss any classes. Should i ignore this notice as well? i have a feeling that if i pick up the letter, then they have proof that i finally got one of their notices.

I'm in los angeles btw and our jails are overcrowded so i doubt i'll get arrested, but i'd hate to pay a fine as a starving grad student.

Yup.. ignore it and go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars

How about be an adult and deal with your public duty instead of ducking behind your busy schedule?

They aren't going to "leave you alone".

i'm pretty sure there are allowances if you are a full time student

It's okay, blow it off. Because when they take you to court, all of those potential jurors will do the same, so it will all even out. ;)

You will probably have the option to put it off for a while, or possibly be excused entirely.

However were I a judge I'd be much more inclined to be nice if you had responded to your civil obligation the first time they sent it - Not after being forced into it.

Quit being an idiot & show up for selection. Being called for duty is no guarantee you'll be stuck there for any significant period of time, when I was called I was in & out in like 5 hours.

YOU are a citizen of the city/county/state and country in which you live. It is YOUR civic duty to AT LEAST show up! These FVCKERS are just doing their jobs ... now go do YOURS.

Ummm - if you ever looked at any of the 3 previous notices, you'd have seen that there is a box where you can excuse yourself for academic purposes.

But gee, not responding can get you in some serious trouble.

no the form says being a student is not an excuse. i did jury duty 2 years ago and it was a gigantic waste of time!

Your a dumbass. How do they know your a college student with a full load? For all they know your some slacker trying to dodge his civic duty. Pick up the letter and get ahold of the court. Tell them what is going on. They will be more than happy to work with you.

heh, i don't care if i'm flamed. i'm just on the look out for a van parked outside my apt that is gonna snatch me and force me to the courthouse.
