I've been gone for a while.. Good cheap Athlon MB for someone who won't OC and won't need to upgrade for a while

Are things like the MSI K7T Pro worthwhile? Built in sound would be great since why not, most have it.

He'll be slapping in a duron 750/800 so he won't need to bother for some time..

And since he'll be "low end" for a while I don't know if FSB 133/266 or whatever will be that big a deal. Ram is so dirt cheap so SDRAM is a good deal for him, and he's not that big a gamer so he won't be OC'ing and pumping the system to the max.

THanks a lot

K7T Pro is fine, but the Pro2A isn't much more expensive, and is even a more stable board than the original Pro. Plus, he would have the ability to overclock if he wanted to also 🙂

The ECS K7VZA has several good reviews which noted its stability and is one of the lowest priced socket A MBs in pricewatch. It has FSB selection to 112 MHz.

Mine is running fine so far with a bridge modified Duron 700 @ 954 MHz with the HSF that came with the combo from micropro. The only discrepancy found is the vcore voltage is reporting 0.1 volts above what is being asked for by the L7 bridge configuration.
