Here's the deal. I sent in my voter registration before the deadline. Two days later I mailed my absentee ballot request. About a week or so later my township/county (one of the two, I forget which) sends me a letter saying my request could not be honored because I am not a registered voter, but if they see I become registered they will send me the ballot. So I figure the county is slow and hasn't registered me yet, but that's ok because as soon as I am registered they'll know to mail me my ballot, right?

WRONG. My mom calls me the other day and says the county sent me a letter saying that they could not register me before the printed they poll books, but as long as I go a certain place to vote it will be ok. Unfortunately, I am at school and cannot drive the five hours back home to vote. So, with no absentee ballot and no will/means of transportation, I cannot participate in the elections. This is fairly upsetting to me because this would have been the first time I was able to vote as I just turned 18 in March.
 
I see you are in New Jersey.

You said you sent your voter registration in before the deadline, how many days before? Did you get any proof of mailing?
 
If you are an absentee voter, its best to register early not waiting until the dealine. How come you werent already registered?

Didnt vote in the primaries?

Horribly insecure and badly programmed voting machines. At least here in Ohio, not a chance in hell I'll ever use one of those damned things.

 
I have to vote absentee because I'm no where near my town.

I suppose registering earlier would have helped, but my point is that I sent in everything before the deadline, and they still could not register me. If two weeks in advance is not enough, they ought to move the deadline back.

Funny how I signed up for selective service the day I turned 18 but didn't get around to registering to vote until about 6 months later....probably exactly how the government wants new voters to be.

Let's see. How long has Election Day been scheduled? Oh wait!

And two weeks prior to Election Day is not enough time for this to be reliably done considering snail mail and all.

I mailed it in 2 weeks before the deadline, not election day. The deadline is a good 4 or 5 weeks before election day itself. So, in reality, I sent my stuff in 6 or 7 weeks ago.

If you sent your college application on the last day of the deadline, and they sent you a letter stating that they could not process it in time, wouldn't you be pissed too?

Actually he says he mailed his absentee ballot in two days after he mailed in his voter registration. I was wondering if what he typed was actually correct so that's why I asked him again.

OP, they might have received your absentee ballot before they received your voter registration. Sounds like you shouldn't have mailed them so close together.

Was rereading that again and saw that. 😱

Still though, they might have received his request for the absentee ballot before they received his voter registration info or at least before his voter info was on the books.
 
I registered to vote in Harris County because I spend way more time at school than home, and probably won't go back there when school is over.

THe upshot is that my voting location is on campus.
