I've been decieved by the Movie Industry so I'm suing...

MadRat

Lifer
I just heard on the TV that Hollywood is being assaulted by lawsuits this year.

I haven't found a link but the latest lawsuit claims people are decieved by the posted start times of movies. Apparently when it says 7pm the movies are now starting up to 45 minutes later! I noticed that right away at "Daredevil" when the run-time of the movie was only 107 minutes and it ended up take two and a half hours to see it!!

And they are too violent!! 😉

And their reviewers don't even exist...

Oh, dear. If I was Hollywood I'd want to move to Canada. 😀

everyone knows that movies don't actually start at the correct time. Anyway, i sometmes like watching the trailors, sure beats watching them on apple.com with crappy quicktime

well i generally agree with this statement. this is a potentially good thing. possibily we can bring down ticket prices with this and get rif of teh damn ads before movies

I'm suing cause you are suing and it makes my back hurt.

I'm suing you for making me read the word suing too many times while my pre-coffee brain was not prepared for the onslaught! I'm suing!! 😛😀

😉

You mean you're not upset that you pay $dollars to see a movie and then have to sit through toyota commercials and previews for 45 minutes? That doesn't bother you?
It sure as sh!t bothers me.
Ticket prices went up the past couple of years, like here in Toronto we used to watch movies on Tuesdays for 4 bucks, now on a tuesday it's like .. 8 or 9 bucks.. what did we get with the increased costs? Biggers theatres and COMMERICALS before the movie.

At least at home I can turn the fvcking channel. When you are at the movies you are actually FORCED to watch the damned commercials, you have no choice, other than not going to see the movie.

That would be nice, but more often than not, lawsuits cause prices to go up. :frown:

Lawyers are going crazy.

I wish they would change suits in such a way that they would be like a bet.

You have to put up a percentage, or minimum amount of money, in order to sue.
If the case is dismissed then the defendent gets the money. If you win, you get
the money back in addition to what is awarded. That would elminate the, most
frivilous lawsuits. The I am fat so I will sue McDonalds.

I realize that the unfortunate portion of society might not be able to come up
with the money to sue then, but I don't see why if you get a Lawyer and your
case is good, he wouldn't put up the money for you.

First, I have never sued anyone nor have been sued. Now with that out of the way, Lawsuits will continue and increase in quantity and insanity until the overall of the majority of the population can't stand it anymore. Until then, many people (mostly the Lawyers and employees of the Court Industry) will continue to make money over money while a few lose practically their lives.

In the early 1990's there was a brief push by a coalition of people to try and stop frivilous Lawsuits, their efforts were squashed by the very same people mentioned above, nuff said.

I aim to be at a movie 10-15 before it starts, but if I'm going to be late I know for a fact that I have up to a 15 minute window (at least 10) after the start time.

rrrright.... lets open the world to a slew of ^stoopid^ lawsuits.

Sh!t Happens.

I ranted on theaters a few days ago but can't find the link. You're right though. There are no more cheap movie nights for me either. The only way to get a discount (of about $2) is to go to a matinee. Well the reason theaters are doing this is because they can. People are willing to pay increasingly ludicrous ticket prices. When I was younger I went to movies all the freaking time. When I was a teenager I went to one almost every weekend. Now I go every 4-6 weeks even though I have much more money. Renting a movie I still do frequently but paying to see them at theaters and having to deal with crowds of people (some of whom may talk in the theater depending on movie genre) and paying a ton of money to do it I reserve only for select picks like the Matrix 2.

If this upsets people enough they'll just stop going. Ticket prices will go down and perhaps hollywood will get the picture. Unfortunately though most people are still willing to pay tons of cash, and so these trends will continue until in several years there will be an interlude in the middle of a 90 minute movie for 5 minutes of commercials.

I agree with this lawsuit. Consumers PAY to see a movie. We don't PAY to see commercials. Does Pay per view TV have commercials? The lawsuit is suing because the movie start time in the paper reads 7PM and the movie actually starts at 7:45PM. This is ridiculous. It should start when it says it starts. The movie industry has been raking in millions in ad revenue even though we PAY for movie tickets. I can understand ads if the movies were free, but we PAY for tickets. We don't PAY to see commercials.

I hope this lawsuit is successful and either A) ticket prices drop or B) ads are removed from the theatres.

I completely agree with this. I used to love going to the movies and watching the few minutes of previews before the movie, I still do, but lately the movies I have seen have had 15 minutes worht of commercials, VW, Toyota, Levi jeans, Pepsi, Coke, etc.. By the time the movie starts its 25 minutes have passed. Its insane. If they are going to advertise the movie starts at 7:10, I expect the previews(5 minutes) and then the movie to start. Not 7:30 after the commercials.

Well I suppose in fact that nobody is forcing you to do this and although what you say is accurate they've been sneaking these ads in overtime and not overnight. If you really hate it that much stop going 😱

I'd love it if America would just boycott movies entirely for like two weeks to send a message to Hollywood to stop dicking around. In our society I think that it's silly that there is SO MUCH money flooding into Hollywood. $20 million to an actor for a movie. Crazy.

I'll post this in this thread as well.

This way you people complaining can actually know what you're complaining about. 🙂

And as for the start times of movies, that has nothing to do with the actual movie making industry and has to do with the theater industry.

Oh, dear. If I was Hollywood I'd want to move to Canada.
They pretty much already have. Things cost too much to make here.

Read the article. It should've been the theaters who should boycott the studios because they are getting the raw end of the deal. They are being bent over a barrell and are taking it with a smile.

I hate going to the movies you pay $12+ for a couple of tickets $4+ for a soda $4+ for some crappy pop corn and then you have to watch commercials, more often then not the movie sucks. *** give me my money back*** Renting a movie is the way to go!!!

Good. Maybe more people will say "fvck you movie theatres" and wait for the DVD.

People are choosing to view the movies in their homes. Why spend $30 - 40 per theatre visit when you can spend that 25 times and build a pretty decent home theatre.
Home theaters are wicked. Several years ago few people had them so unless you wanted to watch a movie on a small screen with crappy sound the theater was your option. Now I've never seen a home theater that rivals a movie theater, but for a couple of thousand bucks you can have a solid TV with a healthy home theater with full digital surround sound. Turn the lights off and the sound is awesome. Throw a big HDTV in the mix and a theater is hardly better - especially when you consider that most movies in theaters still have all those specks and artifacts all over the screen.

I don't really mind the commercials...really never had them last 25 min. We usually get 3 commercials about a minute each and then the movie trailers start.

Plus, I only go to the movies about 3 times yearly. 🙂

Its getting to the point where you cannot watch Disney movies on DVD w/o being forced to watch 10-15 minutes of previews, too.

Lets all boycott Disney. 😉

Yeah, right, like the wives would go for that!
