Okay, I really hate iTunes. It sucks. But it's a kind of, 'ya have to have it' sort of thing. Especially with my damned wife.

iTunes wants to screw stuff up, move things around and when I uninstalled it and reinstalld it, it took all the settings from before, knew where my media was, and went right back to EXACTLY how it was set up prior. When this happens, duplicates are made.

What I want is to GET RID OF TOTALLY! I want to be able to reinstall iTunes so that the program has no clue it has ever EVER been on my damned hard drive, that way I can set it up MY WAY.

In case you want to know, I despise ho iTunes wants to manage my music and places everything in subfolders of subfolders, putting music in places it doesn't belong, etc. Drives me MAD.

Can anyone help? I am running Windows 7 Professional. iTunes is uninstalled of my system, but I know that is not really the case. Something is left behind.

Right now all the duplicates in my music folder are gone and I have everything sorted the way I want it. I like it this way and want to keep it this way. And when I download or buy more music, I want it to go where I want it to go.

I haven't used iTunes since v7, but there should be an option to "Allow iTunes to manage my music folders" in the settings. Don't let iTunes import any music before you de-select that and you should be fine.

Dig through the hidden folders in your user directory. In App Data, you should have some iTunes stuff that won't be deleted when you uninstall.

Oh my God. This is maddening. I just went through very specific steps to remove EVERYTHING and yet, when I reinstalled iTunes, it went right back to the way it was! And I had no option for telling iTunes NOT to organize.

There is some hidden mother F-ing file here!! I HATE APPLE!!!

Get some key file names/extensions from the itunes folder, uninstall everything you can, delete the registry entries you can find, and then do a search for itunes stuff using the names/extensions you copied down. I don't have Windows running, and Apple isn't allowed on my systems, so I don't have anything specific.

You can use Ccleaner to find registry keys. I'd encourage you to not do a mass clean. Use it to pull dead keys, then go through manually to look for Apple stuff.

You might want to check the folders of other Apple products. Maybe they squirrel something away in them :^/

You betcha. I am heading into CC Cleaner now. it i mind blowing how software companies refuse to allow you to delete their garbage.

Thanks for helping, gang. I am no newbie, but just beside myself with frustration here. How I wish my wife did not have an iPhone. None of this would be necessary.

If you are having issues with just the music part, try out Mediamonkey. It'll sync your music no problem. I am not sure how well it would work with iTunes concurrently.
