I'm either going crazy, Apple has changed something in the new version of iTunes, or it's an OSX/Win thing. Here's what I have Smart Playlists that autoupdate when I sync based on a song from a playlist that hasn't been played in X number of days. Now on my Hackintosh, I'd sync my Nano 5G and listen to it during the day. And when I synced the next morning I got all new songs.

It's not doing that in Windows 7 though, the only thing I can figure out is the Nano isn't updating the play count in iTunes so iTunes isn't seeing the track as having been played yet. It's not updating my Smart Playlist at all. What I have to do now is play the song on my PC and once it's done when I sync that song's replaced on my Nano with a new one.

Do a quick test by putting a song on repeat and leave it there for a few minutes on your iPod.

Check the song played # in your iTunes and then plug in your iPod to see if that number changes.
