So I have some chinese songs on my ipod, on first import the characters display fine. Ipod screen and itunes both show the tags correctly. BUT as soon as I play the song in iTunes (with my ipod connected to my computer) itunes will overwrite the chinese characters with garbage like this -> ÎÂá°&ÖܽÜÂ× .

I'm on WinXP SP2, have the asian language packs installed. This is iTunes 8.0.2.20 (latest).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Also, does anyone know a program that can sync playlists with ipods but keep 2 copies of the files so the songs can be played on the computer without the ipod connected.

XP and Vista may require that you localize the computer to the region in question before it'll properly display the characters in the correct language. Go to Control Panel > Region and Language Options > Locations, switch to China (PRC) or whatever it was. *NOTE* This is for Vista but XP should be pretty similar, I don't have an XP system in front of me at the moment.
