iTunes Question

i have a external Hard-drive full of music that i want my iTunes to play that music right off the hard-drive instead of wanting to copy it to the machines hard-drive locally.

how could i go about doing this?

Can't you just add the files to the library from the File menu? In the options/preferences somewhere, though, is an option to have iTunes automatically copy any songs to the My Music folder and organize everything automatically. Make sure that's off, or what you're trying to do will be pointless 🙂.

Just tell iTunes to let you manage the library yourself?

I've never had it copy music from external drives to local drives..

Set the library to that location. (Edit->Preferences->Advanced->General Tab->iTunes music folder location:Change)

or

Add files to iTunes and have it not add them to the libary (an option on the same screen)
