iTunes problem with burning CDs

Every time I try to burn a CD with iTunes my computer will restart itself if I'm doing anything else. Browsing the web, opening up a program, etc will cause my computer to reboot always when burning a CD with iTunes. Any idea on why this is happening and how to alleviate said problem?

Not 100% sure why it's doing, but buring/ripping in iTunes makes it the worst resorce hog around. Is you computor crashing or when you turn it back on does it say it's recovered from a error?

It doesn't say it's recovered from an error. I disabled restart on error so we'll see what happens. I think everything just freezes up completely. I think it may even be my burner. It's quite old and I haven't updated it in a while. I'm not even sure how many burns there are total on this drive. It's an old Plextor 708A. It's time for an upgrade anyway.
