All the songs are listed twice in its library. The one listed first never plays and it displays and error when you click on it that says the file was not found. I copy and pasted my music from a backup hard drive to My Music folder after my format (on xp32 now) and then i installed iTunes (to sync my new iPod). The files have not been copied twice, there is only 1 mp3 per song in all of the folders where the songs actually are. Anyone know how to get itunes to rescan its library?

Idletunes

The current feature list of idleTunes is:

* Find and insert album artwork into tracks
* Copy iTunes playlists to any MP3 player
* Export iTunes playlists as M3U, PLS, or B4S
* Remove "dead" tracks from your library
* Create playlists for all of the albums in your library
* Create playlists for all of the artists in your library
* Delete user playlists

it was mentioned on lifehacker, have not used it myself but sounds like what you need.

:Q, that worked perfectly!

Do you know if it is safe for it to retrieve album art, i am scared to give it access to the net to retrieve it, will itunes then upload the art onto my ipod to view while i am listening to that band?

Yeah. Album art works great for me. A little album cover shows up on the screen when I play a song.

Isn't the album art added to the ID3 tag of the MP3?

I honestly have no idea. Even if it is, the graphics are pretty small so I don't think they'll consume your hard drive very quickly.
