itunes, ipod, windows

My g/f just got an ipod. Itunes freezes her computer when she starts up itunes. It becomes unresponsive and you have to shut the computer off by hit the power button. Any ideas?

Need more info to troubleshoot, but I'll give it a shot: Does the Ipod connect to the PC via USB or Firewire and are the drivers for those devices installed? Without the Ipod connected, go to Device Manager and make sure you have no exclamation point, question mark or red "X" icons next to those devices (there shouldn't be icons next to any of your devices, either.)

Is the Ipod software installed on the PC?

as alzan said, more details needed: can you post the full system specs and OS as well as the type of iPod? Is the latest version of Itunes installed?

Dell Inspiron 2650 1.6Ghz P-4M

384 MB of RAM

Latest Itunes installed

This is through a USB 2.0 PMCIA card. The USB card works fine. I can use my printer with it.

The ipod software is installed.

I got it to stop freezing last night, but now when I hook up the ipod, it does nothing. I hooked it up to my computer, it works fine. It finds her ipod and starts itunes.

So now we know it works on another computer. Now I'm thinking there might be an app. or a system service on her laptop grabbing the Ipod as soon as it's connected. What OS is on the laptop? You could try running the two computers side by side and compare settings in Itunes, see if there's something different on the laptop settings.

Oh, do other USB devices work fine on the laptop?
