iTunes help

Ok.. so I just manually copied new music to many different subfolders in my "My Music" folder.. there are subfolders that's named Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, etc.. How do I get iTunes to update the library and see these files?

iTunes does not actively monitor your music folder for new files, so you have to add the files to your library via the menu.

What if I add 50 songs to 20 different subfolders? Do I manually click Add file to Library 50 times??

I always click on Music in itunes, then drag the folder with the music into itunes. Not sure if that is the right way, just the way i do it.

You could probably just add your main mp3 folder again and have it rescan all the subdirectories too.

Dragging them right into itunes should work as well.

yup drag the folders to itunes window
if you moved them after itunes already had them in the library...well the originals will have broken links..there are utilities out there for removing references to dead files. i forget the name, google it up.

So I found ITLU through google. You can tell it to find new tracks that aren't in your iTunes library and also delete broken links. But it takes just as long as deleting your itunes library file and re-adding your entire music folder manually... 😕

But it keeps your play counts and other information.

Why do I find myself having to delete then re-add my music library so often with iTunes?
I suppose deleting folders without iTunes knowing about it... or adding new music and trying to add it to iTunes is what causes me grief.
I love to hate iTunes.

And then... WinAmp. Now WinAmp is showing duplicates of files I no longer have. Why?
My wife, my daughter and myself have all fallen victim to the mysterious WinAmp "keyboard oops" where Winamp decides to not play our music, but quickly cycle thru all tracks ( as if it's trying to convert them without actually playing them.)
Going thru all menu options and mashing the keyboard randomly usually gets WinAmp playing again.

I just want an MP3 player that is easy to use, monitors my folders, has a very intuitive interface, and doesn't break if you sneeze on the keyboard.

owning both the zune and ipod, monitoring folders just does not work for me.

i am a devote fan of total commander anyhow.
so for the itunes and zune software, i just use the drag and drop method.

creating playlists in itunes this way makes it a breeze and the inability to do so is the number one downfall of the zune software, imho

Huh?

The Zune software actually has active folder monitoring, so any new music you place in your music directory or subdirectories gets added automatically to the software. You can add the "Date added" column in your view to keep track of these.

And it also syncs playlists, and creating playlists is no different in the zune software, so you can simply drag any new files into your playlist to sync to your zune. Not sure what the downfall is.
