iTunes can't find loads of album artwork even from popular bands

Does anyone else here have problems with iTunes finding album artwork? I have both the zune software and itunes on my PC, I have a zune hd and recently got an iphone 4, with zune it has all of my artwork but apparently it doesn't save it into the id3 tag because almost none of it showed up in itunes. Even after doing get artwork it doesn't find a lot of album artwork, even popular bands like weezer it only found like 1 or 2 covers from all their cds. Is there anyway to take a more manual approach to retrieving artwork via itunes? In zune it lets you search the marketplace and select the album info yourself, and then updates song names and artwork based on that. Is there any way to do something similar in iTunes? If not what is a good 3rd party program I could use to find artwork and write it into the tag?

You can also drag the art in from something like Amazon, I have done that on occasion.

I use mp3tag to do this as iTunes is pretty awful with tags and album art. It's not automatic but it'll work

Everytime itunes updates for me it looses my art for 1/2 my collection 🙁

gonna try that, its all auto?

Not fully auto, you pick a directory that contains an album and click the "Search on Amazon" button. It brings up a list of albums and you pick the proper one. It then tags and inserts images according to your preferences. I like having to look at every album so I can make sure it's correct, even though it's more tedious this way.

That sounds great actually, that's exactly what the zune software does and what I needed. Is the album art it picks up pretty high res? I know some of the images that mp3tag would get for me were incredibly low res, like 150x150 when the images itunes picks up are like 600x600. I'm gonna have to try it tonight, thanks for the heads up.

It finds the resolution associated with the album you pick from Amazon, some are that small, some go to 500x500 or so. If it's at too low a res (or not listed), I google image search the album title and save the .JPG, which you can then drag and drop onto the Album Art within the program.

I'm not sure if you can do this in Windows, but in OS X, you can actually drag and drop straight from the browser to iTunes without saving the file somewhere.

Are the tags done in mp3tag cross program compatible? If I tag it, will it be correct in both Zune AND iTunes?

I ask because I work for AT&T, and test out phones all the time, and with the latest Windows phone I needed to use Zune, and it screwed up thousands of tags from iTunes with it's "automatically scan for all your music and leave the checkbox for automatically replacing tags on all your music ticked" settings. Just a little tweaked at that.

No clue on that one.
