What I don't understand is, why do they block the Pre, but they don't block Hackintosh? 😕

If I were to guess, they are willing to tolerate hackintosh's because at least they use an Apple OS and are likely to buy or own other Apple products. I don't think the Pre using iTunes brings anything to the table for Apple, no real significant volume of new sales, no reason to buy an Apple product.

I'm cool with it, it's Apple's show, their call... It was stupid of Palm to add the functionality without an agreement in place.

Of course Palm doing stupid stuff is nothing new.

iTunes sucks ass anyways, no loss there.

Yea but there are so many people that use it and have to use it cus of their ipods/iphones cus they don't know any other way to transfer their music.

Personally, I like itunes. Its inobtrusive, works when I need it, and does exactly what I want it to.

Why fix something that isn't broken? Its personal choice that I use it. Everything else is just kludgy.

Microsoft invested so much money into outlook and my ipod syncs to it, I think Microsoft should shut apple out and only sync to the zune. And google should only sync to a google phone ... or would that be stupid?

I'd be all for that since Apple does that but there would be so much backlash from it. Apple doesn't get backlash cus people love Apple even though they are worse than Microsoft.

Does the iPod ID itself as a Zune when syncing with Outlook? Or some other WinMo device? If so, then MS can do what they want. If Apple is using documented public API calls then there isn't really anything MS can do.

Palm is not using public API calls to sync with iTunes, they are spoofing the Pre as an iPod. Apple simply corrected the vulnerability. Petty? Sure.

I tried the Pre for a week before returning it, and IMHO there are larger issues with it (WebOS 1.0.3 & HW) than iTunes syncing. I did return it mainly for Sprint service issues however.

I just updated to webOS 1.1 and iTunes sync is working again. Looks like Palm and Apple are ready to battle 😉

Unless Apple has a plan that will block Palm out forever, they'd do much better to just charge Palm for a license and make some money off them.
