Itunes and Winamp problems

hey guys, I'm running Vista Home Premium and I have both itunes and winamp installed. Recently, Itunes has decided to start randomly crashing. It'll be playing music in the background and suddenly stop. When I go to look at the program, it appears that everything is fine, but the minute I click on anything it freezes. If I try to use the task manager to end task on it, it never works. Itunes.exe remains running regardless of what I do.

After it crashed about two minutes ago, i tried to open winamp to listen to music. When I pressed "add directory" winamp crashed in the same manner - nothing I do can end teh process.

I can't even shut down because the process won't end! I have to take teh battery out of my laptop to get it to turn off.

As you can imagine, this problem is really frustrating.

Any ideas?

try holding down the power button for about 4-8 seconds next time. that should turn it off with out pulling out the battery...

also, after you reboot, try winamp again. it could be that it crashed because something hokey was already going on with your system after itunes crashed

Thanks for the advice. Itunes is now crashing regularly at random intervals (usually at least an hour after turning it on) and I'm forced to reboot to get it working again. This wasn't happening when I first installed Vista, so I'm trying to figure out what might have changed.

yup hard shutdown on most laptops is to hold the button down. its more like cutting power than shutting down of course.
are the fans all working?
basically is your laptop overheating.
