iTunes and the Equilizer

Okay, first question since I'm not into audio much. Firstly, what exactly does the equalizer do? I've always seen it in Winamp for all these years but never knew how to use it.

Secondly, in iTunes, is there a way to change it automaitcally. Like I just use the presets but say I want to switch from my regular playlist ( rock ) to my studying list ( classical ) is there a way to have the equalizer change itself?

Thirdly, how important is is. I picked the classical preset in both itunes and in winamp and they seem to be quite different settings. So does it really matter? I can hear the difference though, sounds better so I guess it must be doing something.

Bah! Moved in like 10 seconds? The equalizer isn't a software specifc thing, curse you mods!!!! 😛

for each song (or group of songs) you can right click and get the info on it... somewhere in their you can set the equalizer preset for the given song.
