Hi folks,
So I moved my "Mobile applications" folder off my boot drive (SSD) and made a junction to the new location.
I launch iTunes, it sees all the apps fine. So far so good. Now, when there are any updates to the apps, iTunes shows that and I can start the upgrade. iTunes downloads everything, however nothing is changed in the end. The upgrades do not disappear from "Apps" section and I can re-download them again and again and again... Every time it takes many minutes for the updates to be downloaded (and I can see network usage), but those damn things for whatever reason aren't moved to the linked folder (no idea where they go tbh...).
Now, when iOS5 hits I want to backup my iPad and my iPhone first... that's 32GBs. I don't have that much space available on the boot drive. If it will work "as good" as the Mobile applications one, it won't actually backup anything...
Any idea if iTunes has problems with junctions? Do I need to do something else?
I downloaded: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896768.aspx
I used: junction.exe -s "C : \Users\<user>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications" "D : \iTunes\Mobile Applications" and received a confirmation too. I can see the junction (added spaces in the syntax to not get smileys).
Weirdest thing is... my C: gets filled up, but I just can't find the items... Also, when I search for .ipa on C, it finds it all in "C : \Users\<user>\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications" (My Music instead of Music) but I can't find a folder like that at all... iTunes is set to "C : \Users\<user>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media"... Or does Search list those things on C because of the junction? If that's the case, why does my drive fill up a GB more every time I download the updates for apps? Did it 3 times now, "lost" 3GBs of space on C...
So lost...
EDIT: I removed the junction, Search doesn't find any .ipa files on C now (so it was listing them via the junction)... The drive space is still lost though... Had 23GB 30 minutes ago, have just under 20GBs now...
EDIT2: Found the blasted things in iTunes Media\Downloads with some temporary filenames. But they aren't moved to the linked folder on the other drive... Any idea why?
