I installed the latest version of iTunes, 12.7, which had a small notice about the changes before proceeding. Once it was done I noticed that several things no longer worked like the last.fm scrobbler and mini lyrics. Turns out that they removed the COM function that these apps use to communicate with rendering them useless. If you use them don't upgrade to this new version of iTunes.

There's a beta last.fm client posed in the last.fm forums as a short term fix but is manual and requires that you manipulate it rather than functioning as a stand alone application like the normal scrobbler does.
