ITT Technical Institute...

I'm considering this place for college and so I was wondering what your thoughts on it are. It seems to be a pretty respectable college but I thought that about the Art Institute of Pittsburgh too until I found out that most graduates ended up having poop jobs. Has anyone here graduated from ITT Tech? Any comments about this place I'd be interested in hearing. I'm interested in the Associates' in Web Development that they're offering so I kind of need you guys to play guidance counselor for me. I haven't taken the SATs yet, unfortunately, so I don't know my score (or anything about the test to be frank so help on that would be appreciated as well).

I'm pretty limited on places to go so ITT Tech and PTI (Pittsburgh Technical Institute) are the only places I have in mind. My grades are alright ranging from A's through C's (spare Chemistry, fvcking gay teacher, had to drop it). So any other places you have in mind that you think would be cool, let me know.

go to college, itt courses tend or at least I've heard can be extremely outdated, and they only teach you a trade...so if it goes out of style you're gonna only know how to do that

you can more likely fall back on a college degree, and use your college grades to go on to more advanced edumacation : d. whereas itt isn't accredited (I believe) thus you can't transfer classes.

That being said...if you get a job and get expierence, it might not matter.

I too believe these type of "strip mall schools" are a waste because you basically get a piece of paper saying you have been trained to do this and it's not a degree.

Any good community colleges, or evening programs at "real" colleges? A certificate program from either might be cheaper, and about as useful for your resume. Otherwise, be careful -- ITT is probably still advertising placement rates from before the tech bubble burst.

Also, CC or evening might make it easier to find time to try getting some (more?) work experience. A friend worked as an apprentice at a small database consulting shop here, and didn't need a degree or cert to do it.

I don't really know of any colleges I have a chance at getting into. I hate my community college so that's out of the picture. I'd like to go somewhere that I'd like and is much different from High School. A few things to know about me would be that I didn't take a foreign language, Trigonometry, Calculus, have no extracurricular activities and have taken no advanced sciences. I like science but not being graded on it and sh!t, I'd rather learn it on my own if I want to learn more. So that's why I didn't want to go any higher than Biology in science. I tried Chemistry but failed it because I had an issue with the teacher and therefore couldn't get any help. I don't believe in stressing myself out over school which is why I didn't push myself in High School.

In all seriousness, where could I go besides community college without the higher math and science? I really like English and literature but I don't know where I could go for that.

get a GED and lie on your college application

actually, if you still live in pennsylvania, upenn is gonna be more difficult/selective school, but there are plenty of colleges in penn.

you could probably get into osu if you had an sat of 1000-1100 and a decent gpa, 2.8>

I would go to community college before I go to ITT. It's a nice school but they cost WAY too much for the paper degree you are getting. Once you get your Associates at CC, then enroll in 4year state college and get bachelors. That will cost less for all of it than ITT and be worth MUCH more.

where is ITT?

I keep hearing them advertising on the radio (I'm in Saint Louis) so I always assumed this is where they were located . . .

and isn't it just a community college for Tech stuff?

I know quite a few people who have gone through ITT and off to well paying jobs and never looked back, It does have its advantages and disadvantages to other schools.

They have locations all over the place.

Try www.clarion.edu, this is were I went, or any other of the state schools in the area. IE Slippery Rock, Califorina(of PA), IUP etc. Clarion is about 1 1/2 hrs from Pittsburgh. All it will take to get get in is half decent grades, you got that and ave SAT scorces. My nephew got Cs-Ds and he got in.

What you do with after you get there is up to you. Most Profs and know their stuff, and are Phds and I really doubt you will ever have a TA for a class.

Most of the ITT grads I knew were stuck in mid level jobs because they lacked a Bachlors, and to get a bach. they would need to go to four years of college where as that same assiociates will transfer at least partially at just about any school.

Yep, i used to live in PA,

Clarion, Slippery Rock, IUP are all good schools and not too difficult to get into..

Have a bunch of friends at all 3, if you party ( on the side of course 😉 ) I would get you introduced to them...

This was very helpful. I thought about Clarion but I thought it was too high for me.

No but I thought that colleges would look at that and frown to see I don't have anything really "difficult".

Not really. I think my math classes were pretty hard up to this year. I could have taken Trigonometry but I had no interest in it like the other subjects. Art is challenging and I enjoy art which is why I took it. I didn't enjoy Chemistry at all which is why I failed it, leaving a big dent in my junior year. If I would have taken other classes I didn't enjoy, my grades would be very bad.

Here are my grades through the years starting with ninth:
Eng 9 - C
Soc Std 9 - C
Int Math 1 - B
Visual Basic 1 & 2 - C (made a new friend and just gave up near end🙁 )
Physical Sci - B
Exploring Business - B
Phys Ed - B

Tenth
Eng 10 - B
American Cultures - B
Int Math 2 - B
C1 & C2 - C
Biology - C
Intro to Law - B
Phys Ed - B
Health 10 - A

Eleventh
Eng 11 - C
Int Math 3 - C
Chemistry - F :|
World Cultures - C
Phys Ed - C
Computer Applications - A
Art I - B
Broadcast Media - A

Last year I really fvcked up. Morale was low and just couldn't concentrate. I skipped nearly 14 days just to keep it together. Here's this year's schedule and how I predict I will do:

Twelth
Eng 12 - B
Env. Science - B
American Government - A
Sociology - B
Phys Ed - B
Health 12 - C
Business Math - A or B
Art II 2D - B
Broadcast Media - A

I know how much effort I want to put forth so that's why I expect what I do. I realize I'm not the smartest guy in school but I'm not dumb at all.

I have been told that clarion if they have space they have to take anybody who applies. I don't know if thats true or not. I have only known 1 person ever to be rejected. As far as difficult subjects go I don't think thats going to be all that important you have decent grades.

You can learn any math or anything you need once you get there depending on your major, If you want to know that math requirements for Information systems or CIS let me know i can find out. I assume thats what your looking at, with ITT.

maybe a full four year college isn't for you (at least not yet). I would still avoid a place like ITT as it may limit a lot of choices for you later in life. Perhaps you should look for a junior college near by to attend for a couple years. If you can manage to focus on your school work there, you could transfer to a "better" school (if you want) after a couple years (I know a lot of people who did this to get into Cal when I was there).

You don't sound like someone who would be motivated to do well in a course you don't want to take....
Almost any *real* college will require a certain number of credit hours in various areas to make you, ahem, "well rounded."
If you are going to use "I'm not motivated enough" or "I'm not interested enough to do well" as excuses for being a lazy a@@ in those classes, then you're going to end up failing.
