It's wireless time

Building a new computer and it's about time I got some Wireless going on.

I have a Cable Internet connection - 1.5mb dl ...

How do I go about making sure I don't lose any connection speed?

I need a wireless router and a wireless card correct?

(Yes, I have a basic Idea how it works ... just not much more than that. 🙂 )

Get a wireless G router and a wireless G card.

Wireless should not affect your cable modem speed because it's software, not hardware. Make sure you have developement in C++

Confused ... what does development in C++ have to do with it?

when you buy your wireless card and router, make sure it is name brand (linksys, netgear, 3com etc). you should also place the wireless router in the middle of your house to receive optimal signal.

If all of the Computers are going to be on my end of the house (within probably 30 feet), will it matter?
Also, the guy downstairs wants to know if he gets a computer with a Wireless card, if there's going to be any problem from floor to floor. (normal non-concrete, non-steel, etc. floors ... so I told him no, but I'd like to confirm) 🙂

Do not buy any Microsoft routers. I did - and I was unable to use my Xbox for online games (when the Xbox was connected to the ports by wire returned it for a Linksys - works fine now). Just stick with Linksys or other mentioned brands here.

it depends....

on my setup, i can get reception from my basement and my wireless access point is upstairs in my room. as long as you don't live in a mansion, i think it's safe to say it will work. ;]
