Jiffy is right. Even though I paid $300 for my 6800 GT, this competes well with it under 12x10 8xAF conditions it seems and possibly even 16x12 8xaf. I can give up AA completely to save $100.

Though probably it won't be widely available in AGP form until Christmas most likely.

1600X1200 seems to kill performance on the 6600GT due to memory bandwidth, and for upcoming games, it will only get worse.

I'm pissed about the AGP (un)availability; I would go out and buy one of these right now if I could... 🙁

Looks like I'll have to wait. Hopefully ATI prices their X700 lower to keep things interesting.

Yeah I noticed it dropped off quick at hi-res, but for $200 it's an amazing value. Furthermore, if SLi does in fact double performance then dual 6600GTs may b*tch slap a 6800GT at the same price point. Considering the great value the 6800GT is, that's a major league mid-range part.

When comparing the 6600gt to the 6800nu, u need to consider the different drivers as well. But in any case, this is an incredable deal! I wonder when the agp version will become widely available (aka @ $200 and not above due to a low demand).

Also, I wonder what the reg 6600 will perfrom like. If it overclocks well, it may be even a better buy then the 6600gt (if the gt doesnt oc as well).

What an insightful, helpful post Compddd. I don't know about the rest, but I was wondering about how $500 cards do against $200 cards.

Thanks for the input.

I guess there in lies the rub. After the prices of the 6800 and x800 line settle, will there be much room for this card? Same with the x700 line. I guess time will tell - oops maybe I'm wrong, but have just assumed this is another paper launch with no real product expected for a couple of months. Anyways time to get the pci express bandwagon moving.

yeah if you have PCI-e, heck chances are its even better on an AMD A64 system but we can't be certain until we get an AGP part or A64 mobos start to offer PCI-e

I have a Dell Dimension 8400. At first I hated the thing because of poor gaming performance but at lease I get to be one of the first to try out the 6600 GT. Guess having PCIe aint that bad after all.

Actually Dell is not that bad if you use the computer just for work applications. Although I am converting it to more of a gaming machine so I'll see how it holds up...

I severely doubt that the X700 will be under 200.00 seeing how the X600XT is now retailing for 183.00 to 245.00 on Newegg's site

My guess is this thing will end up in OEM machines at a much higher rate than the DIY market at first. OEMs are trying to move to PCIE asap from what I hear.
