I'm a Republican from Texas and I can't stand Rick Perry (we call him Governor Good Hair), and every Republican that I know hates him as much as I do. The only reason Perry won his last election was because the Democratic candidate was the former mayor of Houston, and Houston had declared itself a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants. If the Democrats would have run a more moderate candidate, Perry would have stood a good chance of losing.

You guys/gals have to understand that the Governor of Texas doesn't hold the real power in our state, the Leutenant Governor does.

I'm real surprized that the media hasn't picked up on the fact that Rick Perry is using the religous right for his political gain. I've seen/heard too many of Rick Perry's "Adios MoFo's" style speaches over the past 15 years to really think he's truely ultra religous.

I personally hope Rick Perry decides to run for President because it will be a win/win situation for Texas. David Dewhurst will be our Governor and Perry will lose the nomination.

Nevermind the $25B shortfall in the Texas budget.

Really. Just forget it, because Perry is a "success!"

What $25 billion short fall?

Oh, just in case you missed it, or conveniently forgot it, Texas has a two year budget.

He would be as disastrous for the republican party as either Palin or Bachman.

funny, Romney is still the best chance out there to get a single vote from a non card-carrying republican...and republicans won't elect him.

I think McCain is still their best shot.

I will admit the job market here is MUCH better than other places in the US. The housing market never really bubbled or tanked too much, but that is more because there is land everywhere to build. The state finances aren't horrible but the property tax in my country increased about 50%(what we paid on our house) in the last few years.

EDIT.

I forgot to add. The Austin area is growing extremely fast. I see at least 3-4 cars with Cali plates on the way home every day. The funny thing is you can spot a cali person a mile away when mixed with a bunch of Austinites. Very material culture out there for sure.

my buddy just moved out to Austin 2 weeks ago. :D

...but you'd never recognize him as a "Cali" person. Besides the fact that he is precisely none of those things that you mentioned, he is a native of Dallas. :)

And that is different than Obama claiming:

"We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

Actually, it is entirely different. Obama's has a defined goal-maker (We the People) and a physically-attached way of accomplishing that goal, which is to go out and make it happen.

Perry is letting uncontrolled emotions that he doesn't even recognize are the product of his own mind do the talking and expecting that following their random course of action will magically fix everything.
There's no difference in method between, "This mystical feeling tells me I should run for President, so I will unquestioningly follow it," and, "This mystical feeling tells me I should murder millions in blood sacrifice to my god, so I will unquestioningly follow it."

This is assuming he's not just playing those retarded evangelicals. They're fools for mysticism. A little hand-waving is all it takes to make them believe there's something of substance there.
LOL, Fundies.

From your perspective, there in the basement with your head firmly embedded in your nether orifice, that probably makes the kind of sense that only a denialist can appreciate.

Pawlenty has done much the same in Minnesota. The trick for Republican politicians is to move on before their bullshit catches up to them, apparently...

Google "Texas budget" if you want to understand what's going on, but I seriously doubt that you do, thinking you're safe with your multiple pensions & all... And it's all about you, anyway, right?

I checked out his famous speech at the Dem Convention and clearly, he is an exceptional man who could, if given a second term, do many good things for the nation. I really want to see how he'd behave as a lame duck with nothing to lose.

But then, that would be the repub's worst nightmare come true, wouldn't it?
He can't get shit done now, why would we want to give him four more years??

The no's turned both of those items into horrific abominations that nobody thought possible.

Buried under an avalanche of repub no's or "compromised" into uselessness.

Well, that's not his job is it? However, his veto power gives him a lot of leverage over how he influences the legislation that he has to sign or legislation that he promoted. In this regard, his fingerprint is on every piece of legislation that got put on his desk and passed into law.

I think if you took a look at my recent posts I'm right in there with anyone else who's been critical of how Obama has caved in to repub's (Tea Party) demands. However, I'm not going to abandon the guy because he still has a lot going for him, provided he stands up to the unrealistic and nation-damaging demands of the Tea Party and fights hard for the principles he espouses and knows he should defend.
You act like Obama is the only President in history who had to deal with opposition.

His party had complete control of government for two years and he still sucked.

When Bush took office the Republicans had 50 Senate seats and 221 seats in the House compared to Obama's 59 Senate seats and 257 house seats...

And yet you blame the GOP for his failure?

Ah, Rick Perry.

The perfect choice for people who think that the main problem with Bush, was that he wasn't religious enough.
