I read that and yeah, I have no clue how the fuck anyone signed off on that deal. I mean, shit I could see stretching it out to 10 years, but 25?

I don't think that's the only type of those contracts in baseball either though. I seem to recall that some team was going to be paying some big name player for like the next 20 years, because they reworked the contract that way. And it was like a $200 million contract (might've been a $250 million contract but they'd already paid a fair amount of it and then reworked it; the player was ok with that as its kinda like do you take lump sum or do you extend it and know that you'll be getting money regardless of what happens for years to come), so it's a lot of money per year too.

Among the most famous deferred payments is the $1.2 million that former player Bobby Bonilla is due every year starting in 2011 and running through 2035. Total: $29 million, according to Spotrac. Bonilla last played in 2001.

Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr., Manny Ramirez and current Miami Marlin Ichiro Suzuki are all owed tens of millions of deferred money.
jr. and manram are still getting paid?

I always thought that baseball's biggest event was nickel beer night at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium and the debacle that ensued. Look it up; it's a classic.

They did it as the Mets were giving Bernard Madoff money and the gains were better than what they offered Bonilla. So they not only lost out on the Bonilla side but also the Madoff side as well.

We used to have nickle beer night, along with bat night for the kids. Things didn't always work out to well when a fight broke out.

Is that the one that lead to suspending beer sales in the 7th inning across MLB?

This is one of those weird stories that I never forget and always bring up in relevant conversation. So absurd.
