Hi All, with your help, every 5 years i build a new PC and its that time again.
I needed specifically for Audio production, heavy Sample Loads and also
heavy CPU loads on VSTs. My current Setup is an i7 5820k but its time to change.
After doing research i am still comfortable to stick with Intel, too scared of AMD
even though they have some nice Processors. Many people tried to talk me into
AMD but i can't give up, just too scared. So, being decided on the Platform,
based on the research i did i think the i9 10920X fits me best, budget and
whatever wise...even though all the I9s are so confusing now.
My question is not so somple, its: Where do i start now?
I need help mostly with CPU, RAM, Mobo and GFX, the rest will be easy for me
to figure out. Some of the requirements will be:
At least 2x m.2 Drives and probably 3-4 regular SSDs.
I'd go probably for 4x8GB, no more than 64GB of RAM
BlueTooth and/or Wifi would be nice too
I still need to use this: https://www.newegg.com/syba-model-s...4-card/p/N82E16815124107?Item=N82E16815124107
And i wanna stay more on the ASUS and GSkill side.
As of now this is all i came up with:

Intel Core i9-10920X Cascade Lake 12-Core 3.5 GHz
ASUS Prime X299-A II LGA 2066 Intel X299 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard
G.SKILL Flare X Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2933

Thank you All, i appreciate any help

X299 is a terrible platform that only really comes to life if you combine it with one of the models that really blows past the consumer core count, or you want 128GB+ ram, or you need a ton of PCie lanes. And at all of those levels it's also pretty well smashed by both the 12/16 core consumer AMD options as well as 2nd and 3rd gen Threadripper.

However, if you want to stick to Intel, a 10C/20T 10850K build would absolutely be better for what you describe than the 12C/24T 10920X / 32GB 2933 / Single GPU / Several SSD build.

The IPC, clock, and DDR4 performance on the Z490 just have too much of an edge on the X299 platform.

You can stick with Asus and GSkill as well, no problem.

Quick comparison :

10850K : $486
10920X : $699
32GB Flare X Gskill 2933 : $175
64GB Ripjaws V 3600 : $220
Asus Prime X299-A II $300
Asus ProART Z490 Creator $300

As you can see, the price savings on the CPU make for enormous improvement in memory, double the amount of 3600 speed vs 2933, and a dramatically better motherboard in quality and features (12+2 phase, Full Thunderbolt 3 + C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, 10Gbe and 2.5Gbe network etc. Add the Asus AC2100 for 5 Gigabit Wi-Fi+Bluetooth at $40.

If you want a cooling solution for quiet, effective, and reliable, get a DH15 Chromax, it lets the 10900Ks I've built run at 5.2 All Core with sub 77C at nearly inaudible fan speeds. I do recommend a case with good airflow however. You wouldn't have to be as aggressive, but even setting the 10850K to 5Ghz all core would be just a leap beyond the clock behavior of the 10920X.

Check out the Gamers Nexus 'Dead on Arrival' 10900X review, which showed the 8C/16T 9900K basically tying or exceeding the 10C/20T 10900X. There is a larger % difference between 8C to 10C vs 10C to 12C, thus the advantage of 10850K rises a bit on the 10920X compared to the 9900K vs 10900X showdown.

Make sure you look at a decent power supply as well 👍

Thank you very much. That's it, i am set on the 10900k since few days ago.
Now what is harder for me the most is the MoBo and the RAM, maybe the GFX
but most of the other things i either have or easier to select. I want liquid Cooling
and heard about the Arctic Freeze 2. Now its just hard to find the 10900k.
Thank You again, i appreciate any tips or points of direction.
Can you share some direct links to some of the 10900k based stuff?

The problem is the 10900k is available but at 900$ almost. Double the 10850k

Thanks

Good news is that the 10850K and 10900K are virtually identical. Same cores, cache, memory, same die entirely. Just the stock clock behavior is ever so slightly different.

Watch this :

The savings in getting the 10850k combined with your choice of high end cooler will end up meeting or exceeding stock 10900K performance anyway, particularly if you combine with 3600 or higher clocked ram vs 2933/3200.

Thank you. Another thing i was thinking, i can find the 10900kf which is the same exact
ting minus Graphics which i do not need if i have a GFX.

Ah, the video is not working.

Search for Gamers Nexus 10850k, it should get you to the Youtube link.

The 10900KF should largely be fine, but check out Quicksync, as some pro apps can take advantage of it, which the KF would lack. Probably not a big deal, but it is something you want to make sure of before you order. The onboard GPU is also handy in case you have a GPU failure, you can still use your PC while waiting for RMA etc.

Let me take another shot at this, the case i am thinking about is the Fractal Designs Define 7XL.
I already have to of the 5S and love those cases, i'd rather stick with FD if it supports my Cooling
System, which i want Water Cooling. Any idea which?
The hardest part is the GFX, it is the least i worry and cheapest i need in every system i build but
yet it is the hardest to choose. I need something half decent, my work involved mostly Audio
with some very light Video editing. This is what i roughly came up with:

As a general question about installing a mobo are there clear instructions for cable attachments to the mobo from the case? I can probably seat and fasten a mobo. And I assume a case comes with the start button installed and basic things like that. The hard drive connector I can figure out as well as video card connectors & dvd drives. It's the others mainly from the case unit that I can be a little fuzzy on.
