It's time for Todd Jones to go

In a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, ATF Director B. Todd Jones said all types of the 5.56 military-style ammo used by shooters pose a threat to police as more people buy the AR-15-style pistols.

“Any 5.56 round” is “a challenge for officer safety,” he said. Jones asked lawmakers to help in a review of a 1986 bill written to protect police from so-called “cop killer” rounds that largely exempted rifle ammo like the 5.56 because it has been used by target shooters, not criminals.

WTF? It's a weak ass rifle round comparatively speaking. There's no excuse for such a level of ignorance.

I also think it's silly to take the view that the 5.56 is somehow more dangerous "as more people buy the AR-15-style pistols." AR pistols remain a goofy, impractical weapon unless used (illegally) as SBRs, and despite a number of awful, high-visibility mass shootings ARs are not widely used to commit violent crimes.

Did you follow the shouldering vs cheek ruling? I'm not a rifle guy so I didn't pay attention but what I heard of it made me doubt the people making these rules. The ATF has the chance to do so much good, I get really disappointed when the focus on unimportant things like this.

I did.

Quite frankly I thought it was silly that the Sig brace was ever legal, in a universe in which SBRs are regulated and anyone can build an AR "pistol" with the Sig brace. Certainly it seems absurd to say that the device itself is legal, but once shouldered it becomes illegal. I am not convinced SBRs need to be regulated in the manner that they are, but if that is the law it seems inconsistent to allow the Sig brace to be used without a tax stamp, whether shouldered or otherwise. Honestly, what percentage of buyers of the Sig brace could possibly have been using it due to a disability, as opposed to wanting to own an SBR without getting a tax stamp or the restrictions on interstate transport that come with having an SBR?

Not to mention it was designed to do less damage than most calibers. I'd rather be shot by a 223 than a 12 gauge.

I'm on my phone or I'd post the video of the atf seizing air soft guns and saying they can be easily converted to full auto rifles.

I'd rather you be shot with either one😛

I kid, I kid😉

Can this guy sell ammo or what? He just opens his mouth and it rolls right off the shelf.

I'm so glad I never did that AR build I kept wanting to start.

9mm is finally back to OK pricing and is normally available in bulk. I found a good place that makes their own and is ok to shoot at my range. There for a while it was tough to find anything not steel or Russian.

I'd say the whole ATF needs to go. The FBI is more than capable of doing their work, with a hell of a lot more integrity.
