Case: Antec 900

PSU: CORSAIR 620

Motherboard: Abit IP35 PRO

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad E6850

Ram: (2) Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

HD: 500GB SEAGATE 7200 RPM

Vid: EVGA 320 GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Superclocked

2 SATA LITEON DVD and DVD-RW drives

CPU Cooler - Zalman 9700

Windows Vista Home Premium ( not ready to go 64-bit yet)
It all comes out to under 1300$ including rebates.

I'm planning to use X-FI soundcard from current PC. Also In November when 9800's come out, I can use Step up program from EVGA to trade in the 8800gts card.

What do you guys think?

Looks a *tad* expensive, but other than that...aren't we a bit too late for opinions?

My budget was 1500-1800$. So I'm happy to be under it. What lees expensive route would you go instead?

Well, just the parts *look* pricey, I would've probably gone the same route. However, that's not really anything significant to most people, I'm just cheap.

..but yes, aren't we too late for opinions? Seeing as it's ordered and possibly on the way?

Nice system. Have fun!

Wouldn't that be a bit tricky installing Windows when no optical drives will be recognized since they're both SATA and you first need to install the SATA drivers first?

If the SATA controller is native, a SATA optical drive will boot just fine. My motherboard from 2-3 years ago can do it.

I think the 620hx PSU might have been a bit much, as the 520hx probably would have been fine for that setup.

I have a very similar system that I just ordered. I went for a Q6600 though. And I just got the regular 8800GTS 320. I figured I could overclock it myself.

Why did you get 4gb's of Ram if you're not going 64-Bit? I'm curious because that's the only reason I didn't get 4gb's. Aren't there reports of problems when you install 4 dims of Ram (4x1gb) in a 32-Bit Vista? I know it won't "See" all of it, but I thought I heard about people having issues still. I'd like more info on this, as I'd like to buy another 2x1gb kit of Ballistix if possible. Since I got the Retail version of Home Premium, I could dual Boot for 64-Bit to give it a whirl.

Good luck melijak.

People that post what they ordered after they already pull the trigger confuse me.

I already research the parts and received a lot of help from this forum, just separate posts, and just wanted to give other people ideas for a new build and see what others would do differently.
The Ram is 2 GB, sorry for missprint. I will get 2 512MB sticks later.
I went with 620 PSU because I will upgrade the graphics card in November and might need it, it was only 25$ difference between these two anyway.

I was not aware of the sata issue. I have 2 pata drives in the other PC I can use one. I read though that these motherboards have issues with Jmicron PATA controller so I went all SATA.

I also ordered full version of windows, so I can install it more than two times if needed.
