I'm interested in a notebook, what brand do you rely on for the best performance? I'm looking at Apple ibook, Dell and IBM.

Which one would be the worst from this bunch and the best?

Best - IBM ThinkPad T41
Ok - Dell Inspiron 5150 or 600m
Prettiest - Apple iBook
Best bang for your buck - Compaq X1000 or HP ZT3000 with Centrino

Despite Apple's reputation for high prices, their notebooks are actually really competitive if you price them against x86 laptops with similar features. IBM actually seems to charge more than Apple for a similar feature set. Regardless, those are still the only two companies I'd want to buy a laptop from.

I have an IBM T40 and it, I think, has been the best purchase I've made. I'm extremely happy with it.

IBM is best, then Dell. Those would be my only two choices for Windows. As for an Apple, if you have the money and aren't worried about compatibility or price, get it

another vote for IBM Thinkpads.

T-series for a thin and light
X-series for a subnotebook
