Second only to the questions of what is DST and why do we have it?

WA passed a bill to move to permanent DST, except moving to permanent DST requires congressional approval, but those fuckers don't bother with things like that these days.
A fallback plan of moving to permanent standard time and just changing timezones was discussed.

This at least is the good one. Now the sun will start to set at 7 instead of 6. The clock should move forward this weekend, and then just keep it like that for good.

DST cost me a test in college....had to drop the class. It was just an elective, but I was raked over the coals so badly for withdrawing that I simply never utilized that option ever again even when I was clearly failing out of classes.
Back in those days, computers did not auto change the time, and even flip cell phones were luxuries.

You do realize it wasn't actually DST that "cost you a test" right? :p ;)

IMO this is the dumb one, because I lose an hour of my weekend.

<<< Team Standard Time

We should start a convoy protesting standard time as it impedes our freedom to see in the evenings.
Evenings are for stargazing. Everyone knows this

I thought you nerds lived on Zulu time anyway?
But we live in the real world. Just kinda sucks when you can't use your scope till after 11pm mid summer. Makes it harder to do much of anything during the week.

TBH, i'd get used to permanent DST, but would prefer Standard. I really do wish they'd stop with the changes. Just pick one & be done with it. Hopefully someone doesn't set it so the Sun sets at like 2am though.

Going to be a rough morning tomorrow, I said I could run the zoom meeting at my church when asked since I was off, but I forgot to account for DST and also happens that it's my turn this year to change the time on all our DMS10 switches and I have to wait until around 1am to do it. So basically I'm going to get like 5 hours of sleep since I have to be up at 8.

The OT will be worth it in the end though.

well that is short term thinking vs long-term. I totally agree that losing an hour on the weekend is annoying, but it's a bit of short-term pain for now having many months where the sun sets later and later in the day as the warmer temps appear. This makes more of a difference if you are further north where the warmer months are just on the cusp of arriving.

Office bitches don't deserve sun. The time should be standardized so the sun's at the highest point at noon during the summer solstice, and then left alone. That's the only sensible, and technically(the best kind) correct way to do it.

Yeah makes more sense to keep noon at the peek and call it. Stop messing with the clocks!

No matter what we get sun after work anyway, because of the fact that it's getting closer to summer and the days are getting longer. Soon there will be light out until 10pm. If we did way with this it would be until 9pm. I'm ok with that.

Never quite understood the "longer days" justification. That happens either way once it's summer. And in winter it's dark before and after work no matter what you do.

The hardest part of this one is that getting up early is even more early now, by an hour. My body does not care what the clock says it still thinks it's an hour early and I will be way more tired. Ex: getting up at 7 is really getting up at 6.

But either way, pick one, stick with it. :p

I'm annoyed that it's 2022 and I still own some clocks that need to be manually changed. Including the one on my car. WTF, Kia... they have these things called computers now!

The longer justification days thing is a very good justification in much of the northern hemisphere. Around NYC the longest day is the sun setting at 8:31pm. Without the longer day move, the latest sunset of the year would be 7:30. That's too short a day. Having a nice long period of light in the warmer months on weeknights after work is finished, and then for Friday and Saturday night is a big thing. I mean everyone I know around here loves the longer days

If you like to go out though. I guess if you are mostly kinda indoors most of the time it doesn't make as much of a difference to your lifestyle or happiness.

So why not just do that in winter too then? Not that it would make a difference though, since the days are shorter anyway. This whole clock thing is like taking a foot off a blanket and sewing it to the other end to try to make it longer.

Funny you mention New York, because they're the big hold up right now. If New York agrees to abolish this whole time change thing, we will abolish it here too. Not sure what way they plan to go, if it's summer time or winter time. I don't really care either way.

Why not do it in the winter too? Well the whole reason to just keep the time as it is now, so the sunsets are longer in summer, is to not change the time again. No more changing time twice a year. That's what I was saying.

And if you had a time to pick to keep, keep the hours we just adjusted to this morning, so you get longer days in the warmer months and shorter days in the winter. During which season do you think people prefer to have a longer day? The warm weather months where you can have dinners outside like on your deck or yard, go for strolls in the park, a bike ride after work, just go dine out in general, go play some hoops or tennis or wack balls at the range, see some street musicians or check out music at outdoor venues, have a late picnic in the park, go fishing after work, go for a quick walk in the woods, I mean there are literally a zillion reasons to have longer days in the warmer months but not in the winter and they all involve doing things outside or moving outside to get to things - from in urban areas to less populated areas.

I can tell you everyone I know that lives around here wants the longer days in the warmer months and to keep the time the same year round.

Oh yeah not arguing there I really don't care which one we pick. If we keep this one I'd be fine with that. Let's just leave it alone.
