I know many Americans don't realize that we have Thanksgiving in October but I believe it makes more sense than having so close to Christmas.

Also, I love a good feast day!

I will be making a huge (12lb) pork loin roast with roasted veggies and some garlic mashed potatoes and some broccoli/cauliflower in a nice cheese sauce.

Not sure about dessert. I may be too stuffed to for that.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

:D

Taking into account that the reason for Thanksgiving supposedly is to celebrate a successful harvest to survive the coming winter and our weather gets colder earlier in Canada than in the USA, our date makes sense for us. Although we've had no frost in our yard yet, there has been some in rural areas outside this city. There are lots of coloured tree leaves on the ground now, and much more to come. Most flowers are finished. We don't run a vegetable garden any more (retired), so actual harvesting is not part of our fall.

Signature dish? For a lot of us it is same as USA - turkey dinner. That's what we will do tomorrow (one day early because our granddaughter must travel out of town to train people on Monday). So today my wife made 2 apple pies and a pumpkin cream pie. The turkey is thawing. I'll roast that tomorrow with stuffing, then make gravy. Mashed potatoes, a mashed sweet potato casserole, buns and cranberry sauce to go with. Ice cream or Cool Whip for those who would like some with their pie. Since there were good prices on turkeys recently, I already have a big one in the freezer for Christmas with family visiting from out of town.

Gobble gobble!

I'm on night shift but will be making it to our Thanksgiving supper tomorrow, and just have to eat and run. Or try to run.
