It's the economy, stupid: Why income equality matters

Income inequality is the "defining issue of our time", according to President Obama. It's also become one of the most heavily discussed and debated issues of our time, often devolving into partisan bickering.

A new report from Standard & Poor's seeks to go beyond the right-left debate and address a more fundamental issue: Income inequality is hurting U.S. economic growth.

Many factors, including U.S. tax policy, globalization and technology have helped bring U.S. income inequality to the highest levels since 1928.

The article sure nailed it about the partisan bickering.

Conservatards will never admit the income inequality is hurting the country as evidenced by their posts here.

Hahaha says the guy who is on the other side doing just as much partisan bickering.

The problem is not the coin, its the side that I didn't choose that is the issue.

lol.

The problem with income equality is that it isn't reasonable to believe it can exist. If everyone had the exact same income, the ones with terrible spending habits and no concept of financial stability (hint, they are already likely poor now) are simply going to, at worst, piss their money away and, at best, piss their money away to a few individuals who will increase their income.

Even if I agree that the concentration of wealth being spread out among more individuals would be a good thing for this country, I firmly am against trampling on the rights of those with the money to make that happen.

Th discussion is not about income equality, it's about income distribution. Most people aren't asking for an equal income, they are asking for a smaller gap of income distribution.

Obama cares a lot about income inequality.

Here is a proof. He was in my city during the 2012 election campaign and it only cost people $38,000 to go have dinner with him. He took in all that money, knowing that people who give him 38K to have dinner are only doing so that the wealth of country could be more even distributed. We need to get behind Obama on this matter

A consumer economy without consumers.......

Short term profits (and parachutes) for those that shipped America's middle class out the door and now, we all reap the benefits of our new economy and the McService jobs that it brings with it.

Well davetard will you ever admit that Obama has enriched Wall Street with all this bond buying by the fed. Because you do know that a majority of stocks are owned by a small percentage of people? So income inequality hurts America... But you continue to keep voting for the politicians that create the problem.
